Mechanical Design Engineer III
Education:
B.S., Mechanical Engineering, University of Texas at Tyler Summary: Motivated engineer with 14 years of experience in design engineering including upstream oil and gas equipment, midstream Gas Processing Units and a diverse exposure to different technologies. My current engineering responsibilities include product development, lead designer, fit and function requirements, analysis and calculations.
I have expertise in 2D and 3D CAD software, fabrication drawings, manufacturing methods, and communicating design details to fabricators. I can conduct presentations on a variety of subject matters.
Experience:
Mechanical Engineer Confidential Client
Fluor Liquid to Chemicals Program
05/2024 – Current Middle East
Was part of specifications review team involving Heat Exchangers, Vessels and tanks. Aided in evaluating specs, making comments and recommendations. Familiarized with associated API, IOGP specs and ASME Code, specifically ASME Section VIII Div 1 & 2. Currently in the process of using Compress to calculate vessel thickness and sending to vendors for quotes.
Mechanical Engineer Confidential Client
Fluor Liquid to Chemicals Program
08/2023 – 04/2024 Middle East
In Pre-FEED was a part of specifications review team specifically vessel type equipment. Evaluated specs, made comments and recommendations, and submitted CRS forms to client. Implemented new comments and corrections into addendums for new project specs. Aided in creating vessel data sheets specific to client requirements.
During FEED was responsible for examining data sheets for reactors, vessels, columns, blenders and silos for polymer processing area of the plant. Determined complexity of equipment and used the information to setup RFQ packages.
Utilized COMOS and helped create an implementation plan for the project pertaining to licensor data sheets. Was selected to be a Super User for the project and attended the associated training. Mechanical Design Engineer Symbotic
Fluor Warehouse Automation
02/2023 – 08/2023 United States
Part of the Improvement Initiatives Team, collaborated with Symbotic and Fluor on implementing prefabricated assemblies that the construction team could install quicker and safer. This also reduced the cost of construction at the site as well.
Jonathan Johnston Resume External 2-05-2025.docx - 2 - Designed bracing for structure components to provide rigidity during install and require less time to make plume and straight.
Conceptualized and produced Bill of Materials Calculator in excel that was used to calculate the parts and assemblies needed based on the size and configuration shelves. This was used by the construction team to easily confirm part counts and the layout team to cross check bill of materials in Revit.
Lead Mechanical Designer
Venturetech
01/2019 - 01/2023 Houston, TX
Performed FEA Analysis on linkage to determine optimal geometry. Confirmed Von Mises stress and safety factor were compliant with material spec and API 8C. Implemented Product Data Management software, Vault Pro, to engineering change orders, drawing work states, organization, and documentation.
Hydraulic systems design including calculating flows, motor torque and pressure loss. Specified engine/pump arrangements. Created engine/pump curves and schematics. 3D printed conceptual prototypes for analyzing function and fit up of the assembly. Implemented observations to final design in production.
Designed, analyzed, and fabricated drilling mud pressure containment head able to operate at 10,000 psi using API 6X requirements.
Lead Designer
Legacy Measurements Solutions
02/2018 - 01/2019 Woodlands, TX
Managed all phases of the design process for Natural Gas Processing Units . Led designs from initial quote and customer specifications to manufacturing. Created and Implemented Drafting Standards and Design Library based on MRP System. Used FEA Analysis to design lifting lugs and structural frames on units to be safely lifted by crane. Designed equipment including pressure vessels and process piping to ASME Section VIII Div 1 & 2 and ASME B31.1.
Mechanical Designer/Drafter
Axon Energy Products
11/2003 - 1/2006 Houston, TX
Designed and assembled drilling top drives and corresponding power units. Upgraded existing models and created new designs consisting of 250 Ton and 500 Ton Top Drives. Worked on a team to design prototype draw works with efficient and compact design. Mechanical Designer/Drafter
Proven Engineering and Technologies LLC
8/2008 - 11/2013 Houston, TX
Worked on projects including dry bulk solid carrier and transportation. Jonathan Johnston Resume External 2-05-2025.docx - 3 - Collaborated with engineers for designing initial idea consisting of P&IDs and fabrication drawings for prototype.
Prototype was accepted by client and product was put into production on Shell Olympus Rig N88. Additional Training:
Lead Engineer Training
COMOS Super User Training
