Navigation Electronics Technician on SSBN 643, responsible for the operation and maintenance of BQN-3 Sonar, BQS-4 Frequency Standard, BRN-5 Loran, BRN-3 Radio Satellite Receiver, WLR-1 G Electronics Surveillance Measures, and BPS-11 Radar. Also manned Contact Evaluation Plot for Battle Stations Torpedo. Qualified in 640 class submarines.

Tender Maintenance Technician on USS Canopus (AS-34), responsible for high-level repairs and modifications to navigation equipment of submarines moored alongside. I stood watch as Maneuvering Board Operator, Status Board Operator, Radar Operator, Dead Reckoning Tracer Operator, or CIC Supervisor, as needed. My Damage Control Station was as phone talker for Damage Control Central. Made E-5. Took the Canopus through the yards in Charleston, then through refresher training in Guantanamo Bay Cuba before taking her across the Atlantic to Rota Spain. The prior two years were spent in various electronics schools.
