PURPOSE
First and foremost I’d like to thank you for the opportunity to apply for the
position of Police Officer at Purdue University. While my current occupation as
a Union HVAC technician is rewarding, I was definitely more than interested when
I saw the listing for this position. As a youth my sole career interest was in
law enforcement and every activity or skill set that I pursued was related to
that field. After applying to the Indianapolis Police Department three years in
a row (passing the written exam the first year, but no interview; getting
through the physical the second year, but no final interview), I was finally
selected and entered the academy in 2001. While enrolled there, my wife at the
time became pregnant and we unfortunately learned from the first ultrasound that
our daughter would be born with some severe disabilities. The constant doctors
appointments and treatments that followed were too much for me to juggle and as
a result, I resigned from the department to put my family first. I briefly
returned to my position as Co-Manager at LoBills and shortly thereafter was
accepted into the Plumbers and Pipefitters Apprenticeship. In the meantime, my
daughter was born and I thank God that her disabilities were far less than
anticipated. I have not and never will regret putting my family first in
everything. My children are almost all grown (my wife and I only have a senior
in high school left at home) and the thought of pursuing a position like this at
this stage in my life is exciting. I have no illusions or romanticized ideas as
to what positions in law enforcement and security work look like, I only have a
desire to serve and help others, aid them in their time of need, provide
strength, stability and hope.
EXPECTATIONS
I am looking for a full time position with competitive pay around $60,000
yearly, but negotiable. Health benefits and a standard retirement similar to or
