CURRENT PROJECT DETAILS

The purpose of the Lightning Project is to deliver bulk power from the onshore grid network to ADNOC’s offshore production facilities. The main target of this project is to decrease use of the GTGs,and as such increase the energy efficiency as well as reduce environmental emissions. The energy will be transferred by HVDC connections via 2 offshore hubs situated in the Das and Zakum Clusters. From onshore, one HVDC converter station will be connected to the 400kV Transco grid. HVDC land cables will be routed from converter station to a transition joint in order to connect to HVDC subsea cables that are routed to the clusters. Subsea cables are raised on a Riser Platform installed at the land point where a joint is done to connect to HVDC land cables. These land cables are then routed along a bridge to the island followed by trenches until converter station. The island converter station 0is connected to 132kV GIS.Among others, the purpose of this GIS substation is to enable the connection of the offshore hub to the offshore facilities by means of HVAC cables. Up to seventeen (17) HVAC links will feed offshore facilities (Al Ghallan). These links will be routed along the bridge and to the riser platform in order to connect to 3-phase subsea cables.

As per above, the project focusses on 2 independent hubs, being Al Ghallan (Cluster

1) and Das (Cluster 2). The Al Ghallan Cluster will achieve a capacity of 1000MW realized by two HVDC bundles, each consisting of two 320kV power cables and one FOC. Each bundle will be installed along a route with a length of approximately 132km.

The Das Cluster on the other hand will achieve a capacity of 600MW realized by two separate 400kV power cables (each bundled with one FOC) and one metallic return cable (MRC). Each

cable will be installed along a route with a length of approximately 138km. PROJECTS HANDLED

With Fortune Engineering Energy Services LLC, Abu Dhabi, UAE

The PROJECT involves replacement of existing flow metering instrumentation to the latest ultrasonic flow metering to have a better accuracy in the measurement complying to the international standards for custody measurement and COMPANY requirements. In order to achieve accurate flow computations, Gas Chromatographs are required to be installed in many locations to get real time online gas composition data.

Further, in some locations, flow limiting control valves are to be installed such that the customer is limited to draw only the allocated gas quantity.

All the new metering skid installations need to be linked together to a new central Custody Transfer Meter Management System (CTMMS) in Maqta / Habshan through the Fiber Optic (FO) back bone network. It shall be noted that the FO backbone is part of another ongoing project which need to be interfaced.

In order to accommodate the new facilities, some locations require plot extension and in seven locations new buildings envisaged. In one location, Passive Cooling Shelter with solar power system is required and in one location, active cooling shelter is envisage. Responsibilities
