Professional Summary

I currently am looking for more experience working in schools, clinics, or homes working with special needs children and students. I want to get my RBT ver and continue with either a masters in RBT, ABA, or special education. My degree is in English, and I am working on an ESL certification as well, so I will always have a soft spot for early English reading, ESL, speech pathology and grammar. I volunteered working at Rocky Mountain and Easter Seals camps, for respite trips for children with special needs. That’s where it all started. Since then I also worked at an Adult Day working with adults fresh out of the classroom, up to some in their 60’s, as well as a diverse population of Thai, Korean, Latina, Ukrainian and Russian. I tauymini English lessons that proved you can always learn. I worked at East High school in the intensive special education classroom. Every day was a new adventure as we had a wide variety of needs we had to address. Teaching a music lesson with deaf, hard of hearing and sign language. Gym class with students in wheel chairs. Field trips on the public bus with 30 students. Each student was a friend though and it was a sad and proud moment seeing two of them graduate this past year. I think I bring energy, knowledge, and experience on every level and age group that could be a benefit to any team. Willing to relocate: Anywhere

Work Experience

Paraprofessional

East High School-Denver, CO

January 2024 to Present

Worked as a paraprofessional at East High School with students from the age of 14 to 22. It was an eclectic group with lots of different needs and personalities. We worked with hard of hearing, deaf, sign language, mute, and students who worked best with technology to communicate. Some students needed help with gi tubes, eating, getting their food, reminders to eat. Running off, sometimes back to the classroom at lunch, or music, or gym was a constant split for the paras on who noticed it and where we think they are. We worked on different tasks with each student, writing and coloring, navigating technology, following instructions, hand and eye coordination. Interaction with each other, dancing, cleaning, laundry, field trips, trash duty. I was also in charge of two of the more aggressive and disruptive students. Trying to be part of the class and not disrupt it, going on walks to expend energy. One student was more physical and fled class often. Kicking, hitting, spitting, cussing, flashing were all normal. We often used a play system with him to disrupt his mood, and lure him back to class with games, food, and other positive rewards. Every day was something new but I worked with other great paraprofessionals and two amazing special education teachers that formed a close team that could meet all these needs for such a wide variety of students.
