WHIPSAW
Dear Sir or Madam:
I have been formally retired for eight years. I find myself still spending many hours a day at my computer and I think that this time could be put to productive use, and add enough to my retirement income for me to better enjoy the free time.
I spent over five years as the senior technical engineer and manager of the date entry group at the Medical Society of the State of New York in Lake Success. I became very familiar with data entry, as my chief duty was to keep the six person data entry staff happily entering data into the database of the Medical Society. I was DBA for their SQL Server database. I had updated
In the course of managing my software creations I executed most administrative functions that you are looking for. I had to write status reports, make presentations to management on exactly what I was doing and where I was on the time line. In the course of my work for Symbol Technologies and PC pioneer Phoenix Technologies i took calls from the engineers who used our product and gave them critical support to get past many compatibility issues that arose in that era.
I have used Word and Excel going back decades This is a Word document. I integrated Excel into several data entry programs that I wrote. With PowerPoint not so experienced.
My legal career was rather short, but I had the opportunity to write one major appellate brief in New Jersey, to the Appellate Division of the New Jersen Superior Court. It set a precedent in New Jersey, as it gave to illegitimate children the same right to inherit from their natural father as the natural children had, in cases where the father died without a will. The court's opinion is available on the Internet if you search on “In Re Maislin's Estate.” I'm the sole person listed as being “on the brief” for the appellant, as I did all the research and writing myself.
I’m still classified as an active member of the New York State Bar, and I have a fine internet connection over a secure Wi Fi network. Data entry is said to be tedious, but so is writing and debugging software, if you do it correctly. I love to listen to music while I work, and at this age I like my music from a wide variety of sources.
In life I have only known how to work hard and produce results. Clearly, I’m overqualified in many ways, but I’m highly motivated and can get the job done correctly for you at a bargain price. I’m not looking for more money than you are offering and I have a good Medicare Advantage health insurance policy.
Sincerely,
William A Keating

WORK EXPERIENCE – LEGAL
ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY
Hildemann & Hildemann Attorneys at Law Newark, NJ
August, 1977 to April, 1981
As an associate attorney for Mr. Hildemann, I did most of the detailed legal work. This included drafting legal documents and arguing motions in court. I did have one important case that we won at trial and on appeal to the New Jersey Supreme Court. Appellate Division. It set the precedent that the illegitimate children of one who died without a will could inherit the same share of as the other children even if she had been adopted by the husband of her mother. The adoption factor was new.
I did all the legal work in the case and wrote the appellate brief by myself. Appellate briefs require the highest degree of organized content, with precise documentation of every source. That case has been cited in subsequent cases, and it may be found freely on the internet with the search for “In re Maislin’s Estate,” and I alone am “on the brief.”
WORK EXPERIENCE – COMPUTER SCIENCE
SENIOR SYSTEMS ANALYST
Symbol Technologies Holtsville, NY
May 2001 to September 2003
Symbol Technologies was the pioneering company in the field of bar code scanning
I was a member of a four-man team that wrote a new database access program to replace a number of
dated applications used to manage Symbol’s service and repair business. Many of the features were placed in the database, instead of in the user program. This required a full knowledge of its features.
SENIOR DATABASE DEVELOPER
Medical Society of the State of New York, Lake Success, NY
June, 1996 to November 2001
This voluntary association of New York physicians provides services to members such as lobbying.
Senior trained technology person of this organization. Responsible for the main database that stored member data and was used to produce a bi-annual directory of physicians in New York State.
Upsized the MS Access database to enterprise MS SQL Server which was faster and more secure. Provided support to the data entry staff and to all employees who had problems with their computers.
SENIOR PROGRAMMER ANALYST
Phoenix Technologies Waltham, MA
August 1987 to November 1989
Phoenix was the first company to develop and license what is called the BIOS (Basic Input/Output Software) that let anyone develop a compatible computer. Most major name corporations licensed Phoenix software and firmware
I only worked at Phoenix for less than two years but it was my most exciting job. When the first IBM personal computers were sold, many companies want to make PCs that were compatible with it.
I had responsibility for the BIOS software that handled keyboard input, and I had custody of the small Intel 8042 keyboard controller that accepts keystrokes from the keyboard and routes it to its destination.
SOFTWARE ENGINEER
General Electric Defense Industries - Burlington, MA
February 1984 to November 1989
First job in computer software for a General Electric defense plant in suburban Boston.
Transferred to intelligence unit, I alone wrote a real-time software program that enabled the brand-new IBM PC-AT to emulate a dumb terminal that displayed incoming intelligence information. Use of the PC permitted saving the incoming data on the PC's disk drive.
Received a Top Secret security clearance after a background investigation by the DIA.
Wrote software for a mobile phone ireless intelligence telephone receiver, hardened for outdoor use and automatically lowered the reception speed of data until the signal was clear.
