• Michael consulted Andrew Gordon and Chuck Engle for the design of an original data center, intranet, development environment, and necessary security software and configuration. This included the plans for the hardware configuration for all servers, switches, firewalls, storage, and power management. This included the diagrams and cost analysis for the building of the data center.

• This included a HYPER-V virtual clustered structure for all intranet functions including the development software, Windows OS, Active directory structure, cloud and local backups, security software with DLP, and NAS storage.

• The diagrams included the following technologies: 5 Dell Windows 2012 physical servers, 8 HYPER-V virtual servers, 2 Sophos SG230 VPN Firewalls, 2 Dell 2848 switches, 2 HP 1640 NAS's, and 2 ethernet power controllers.

• Performing all duties of a shipboard IT Manager in the datacenter testing environments. Driver’s Alert / Robert Half Consultant, Deerfield, Florida February 2014 – Sept. 2015 Systems/Network Administrator

• When I started at Driver’s Alert I found a network with no licensing, no network management or monitoring, no security, no help desk, no comprehensive backups, and no asset or patch management. There were production servers that scattered between the office and the data center on severely underpowered Dell r320 servers. Virtually no virtual environment organization at all.

• Patch management, firmware, IDRAC drivers, and BIOs upgrades for servers were five years behind and were disabled at the local OS level. DNS was full of errors and no attempt to audit it had been done in many years. I audited and fixed all DNS errors.

• Many production servers were still running 32bit operating systems. I also discovered a 2007 Exchange server that was not replicating in both directions causing a major problem in the attempt to upgrade to 2010 Exchange servers. Their SQL production servers were also acting as the domain controllers causing serious performance issues with SQL and domain replication.

• A complete overhaul of all facets of the network configuration and design had to be performed. In the time that I was there I brought Driver’s Alert up to an enterprise level network. When I was done there was a very small footprint with all servers in the data center for optimal performance of all production, development, management, and testing servers.

• The first thing I did was to evaluate all the scattered servers and determine which ones were enterprise level servers and could be refurbished to host a large Hyper-V environment. I found three Dell PowerEdge R610, two Dell PowerEdge R710, and two Dell PowerEdge 2950s.

• I started by building a Microsoft Systems Center Operations and Configuration Manager server and the Systems Center Virtual Machine Manager on one of the R610s. This enabled me to move virtual machines around while upgrading the other hosts with 96 gigs of dual ranked memory, new hard drives, and raid configuration. Then convert all existing physical production and testing servers in the office to virtual machines and move them to one of the Enterprise Hyper-V clustered hosts in the data center.

• I purchased an HP StoreEase 1640 NAS. Then installed twelve 2TB Seagate Constellation hard drives and 32 gigs of memory and configured two raid 5 containers. Then I took two Dell PE2950s and refurbished them by rebuilding operating systems and installing bios, firmware, and driver updates for the hardware. I then built a redundant CA ARCserve UDP backup solution for all physical and virtual systems. This included Bare Metal Recovery built on Microsoft ADK development. Network Administrator, IT Computer Systems

• I managed all firewalls, switches, and routers and kept backups of all configurations. I developed a complete asset management system for all devices on the network.

• I built, configured, and managed a McAfee EPO (EPolicy Orchestrator) server including the McAfee Security for Microsoft Exchange (MSME) spam filters. This system updated DAT files daily and ran nightly and real time scans for all workstations and servers.

• I built, upgraded, and managed the Exchange organization from one 2007 to three 2010 servers in a DAG configuration with a Kemp load balancer for performance optimization.

• I built, configured, and managed a SolarWinds Web Help Desk with DameWare DRS and Mini remote- control server.

• I managed all AD and Group Policy configurations and changes. I built, configured, and managed a Dell Change audit server and setup reports and alerts for AD and Exchange changes.

• I licensed all software including Office 365 and terminal services through Microsoft VLSC with ModComp. I also managed Office 365 and SharePoint services. I installed and configured Azure AD for integration with domain.

• I set up and managed PRTG network monitor for drill down network alerts and reports of server performance and configuration.

• I built a comprehensive development environment including Team Foundation server, Source control, SQL servers, and Mantis Bug Tracker.

• In April we moved the corporate office. I set up an FPL Fiber Metro Ethernet network segment with Host.net. I designed the network infrastructure for cat5 placement, switch room, and demark. I configured and installed two Adtran POE switches for the Shoretel Phone system and three Dell 2848 Managed L3lte switches for network connectivity.

• I set up and configured a Lorex eight camera surveillance system and tested daily. Kahane and Associates PA, Plantation, Florida Aug. 2013 – Feb. 2014 Systems/Network Administrator

• Diagnosed and repaired malfunctioning DNS with hundreds of errors. Configured the DNS forward and reverse lookup entries for 350 computers and 250 servers manually. Configured dynamic updating of DHCP for DNS entries after DNS was repaired.

• Setup and managed McAfee EPO 4.6 server with 350 clients. Configured and managed data loss prevention (DLP) including USB and CD rom access for all systems. Produced daily reports for intrusion threats and system communication with EPO server. Setup and managed McAfee spam protection for Exchange Server 2007. Monitored and tested security cameras and DVRs daily for functionality and resolved issues.

• Diagnosed and repaired SYSVOL replication across three DCs by discovering that 2 old Domain controllers were removed from the network improperly, found corrupted GPO SYSVOL system files, and missing GPO permissions.

• Diagnosed and reconfigured the SonicWall Firewall for LAN internet access issues to important client websites and functions. Diagnosed and repaired malfunctioning Barracuda 300 Spam firewall by reinstalling OS, firmware, and settings.

• Designed, implemented, and managed custom shared Asset Management system for use by help desk and infrastructure personnel. Included IP configuration (static/DHCP/number), make, model, and mapped locations of all computers, servers, routers, switches, firewalls, printers, and security cameras. Also, user ID, username, mapped location, department, and phone extensions.

• Managed all help desk crew for efficiency and accuracy. Developed new procedures for the insertion of Acronis imaged systems to the company domain for accuracy. Worked extensively with help desk diagnosing and repairing hardware and software issues. Also, set up new users, user system profiles, emails boxes, scanner access, phone extensions, access cards, and necessary software for departmental functions.

Network Administrator, IT Computer Systems

• Retroactively analyzed errors on twenty-five 2003r2 and 2008r2 enterprise servers on a daily basis to optimize performance and uptime. Reconfigured DC servers for Global catalogs, raised PDC from 2003 to 2008, and reconfigured DNS entries in the NIC settings for optimal network performance.

• Upon arriving at Kahane I found that Group Policy GPOs were not functioning properly. After resolving the SYSVOL replication problem and the DNS errors I audited Active Directory. I found many overlapping and misconfigured GPOs and computers in containers that are not subject to GPOs. I then removed 800 systems that did not exist on the network anymore. I then restructured the OUs to the organizational outline. Then I moved all users and computers into their prospective OU containers and applied new GPOs and logon scripts according to the established company policies. Installed ADMX templates and configured Office 2010 specific GPOs and GPPs.

• Kahane had thousands of emails daily and there were always issues. I worked with the McAfee MX logic email cloud security service, Barracuda email archiver, and other methods to track and resolve delivery, spam, and virus quarantine issues.
