Think Tanks And Civil Societies Program 2021

MENA Team Project Lead

Led two international teams to research and collect data on over 600 think tanks and civil society organizations across the MENA region published as internal and external work products. Led literature reviews on main challenges and recommendations to MENA think tanks. Bolstered collection on policy areas unique to the MENA region, in addition to the general policy areas TTCSP collected on for think tanks worldwide. Improved data collection practices. This led to the collection on an additional 200 think tanks and civil society organizations.

Launched research on partnerships amongst MENA think tanks. Assigned report segments and tasks based on team member strengths and language capabilities.

Edited the TTCSP 2021 MENA report.

Encouraged team member idea and managed an external work product on the profiles of the top 103 think tanks in the MENA region as a supplement to the comprehensive report. Led presentation preparations and practice for the MENA team to present key data findings to policy and executives of MENA think tanks at the 2021 Symposium. Built and led three projects identified by the Priority Sustainable Counterterrorism model as solution areas that address weaknesses in prevention and counterterrorism: Localization, Integrating Security and Development, and Positive Prevention. Managed the research, analysis, and writing of interns, analysts, and non-resident fellows using this methodology and model that balances data-driven mixed methods research and open-source analysis with solutions and recommendations that may drive progress. Briefed policymakers, including at the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, United Nations Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate, U.S. State Dept., USAID, the Hill, DOD, and the Pentagon on counterterrorism recommendations related to the Sahel, Nigeria, Kenya, Somalia, Iraq and Syria.

Established and led the “Nigerian Civil Society Working Group” and “Kenyan Youth & Civil Society Working Group”, each featuring over 20 local civil society organizations. Mapped over 500 civil society organizations working on youth, women, capacity building and peacebuilding across Africa.

National Security and Intelligence Analysis Intern 2020

Conducted open-source data collection and analysis on Syria and ISIS Portfolios. Daily workflow consisted of reviewing hundreds of news articles local to Syria in English and Arabic, data collection, data input, analysis of kinetic and political events, flagging events relevant to PIR's and SIR's to senior analysts, and typing up daily briefs and reports on rebel group and military movements and political and economic trends.
