g)Ability to perform scheduled in-house maintenance, calibration, and intermediate checks on assigned equipment to maintain the accuracy of measurements.

h)Ability to develop competence by training laboratory personnel on; Test methods, good laboratory practice; equipment handling, maintenance, and operation; and quality control programs to ensure business continuity.

i)Ability to prepare individual weekly and monthly performance reports highlighting compliance to set targets

j)Ability to implement and provide input in the review of the laboratory quality systems.

k)Ability to plan, and implement individual training programs as approved by laboratory management to ensure systematic personal development and delivery of testing services

l)Ability to perform assigned technical tasks in test method development

m)Able to provide expert advice to the legal department in court cases involving testing issues.

n)Able to give recommendations on equipment, chemicals, and reagents required for testing including designing simple modifications and fixtures to facilitate performance of tests.

o)Ability to apply good laboratory practices according to established protocols, safety guidelines, and existing legislations such Occupational Health and Safety Act of 2007 to ensure safe work practices. Able to perform proficiency testing/inter-laboratory comparisons organized in the division. as a quality assurance and control measure to ensure validity of results.

Work Experience

MEDICAL LABORATORY SCIENTIST

–While in KEMRI- Center for Virus Research, I acquired knowledge and skills on the scientific application of technology for biomedical research, surveillance of Viral diseases, and the use of molecular epidemiology to monitor disease transmission pathways

While in KEMRI Centre for Virus Research ( CVR ) HIV laboratory in the early infant diagnosis program(E I D) I underwent rigorous training in:-

.Pediatrics HIV diagnosis in early infant using Roche Amplicor HIV- DNA Polymerase Chain reaction ( PCR Kit )

Viral load procedures with the use of Easy Q Nuclisens Kit, Based on Boom chemistry and principle of NASBA(Nucleic acid Sequence Based Amplification)

Peripheral Blood Mononuclear Cells (PBMC) separation for further research process.

General routine laboratory work,

Molecular biology techniques, used in day-to-day work at the HIV Laboratory.

Immunological and Clinical Diagnostic Assays, among others.

Able to collect and prepare specimens and perform laboratory procedures used in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease, Verify, record, and report lab results on all performed tests.
