My duties were to perform cargo inspection of petroleum cargo ships, barges and cargo storage tanks at refineries and terminals. These inspections consisted of gauging and quantifying the number of barrels loaded onto or discharged from these cargo vessel and shore tanks.

Samples were also drawn from these cargo vessels and shore tanks and delivered to our company lab for testing to ensure that the products quality, met our customers required specification. Inspectors were given the appropriate training on the use of gauging and sampling instruments and equipment to do our job. We were also furnished with a laptop computer, calculator and a tally book that we used, to record the how, what, where and when our Cargo operations activities commenced and completed. We also maintained a log measurements, and temperatures that were taken from the Vessels and shore Storage tanks, as well as the density of the cargo, that was determined from the testing of the samples we took, needed to perform our calculations. At the completion of our job assignment, a final cargo inspection report was compiled, officially verifying the number of barrels, the quality of the cargo and time that the Loading or Discharge operation took from start to finish, a copy of which was then emailed to our office as well as to our clients. My duties consisted of all this, among other things.
