San Antonio State Support Living Center 2021-Present

(DSP I) Direct Support Professional

I was expected to observe work rules. I was responsible to observe the standards of conduct. I was required to be familiar with those standards and follow all HHS Policies and Procedures relating to the job performance and work rules. I worked in a Residential Home where Individuals both female and male lived. I often helped feed the individuals and with their (ADL’S) Activities of Daily Living which also meant bathing, helping them in bed and out of bed. I used various mechanical machines to accomplishment most of the Residents for many who were in wheelchairs.

Lexington Learning Center 2017-2018

In-Home Provider/Driver

I worked in a program with Developmentally Disabled children. I assist with helping them develop Social Skills and learning age appropriate inter-relational patience. I assisted them with understanding personalities and how to be caring and creative among each other. I also assisted them achieve their goals and work together with activities. I picked them up from School and take them home after school.

Residential Treatment Counselor

I worked as a Residential Treatment Counselor. I worked in a residential home filled with cottages on an on-call basis. I supervise children who have emotional and behavioral problems. I arrived to work in the afternoon when the children are either out of school or in school on campus. Some of my responsibilities included making sure that they don’t fight with each other while they are outdoors playing. I also provided supervision when they come in. I make sure they shower, eat, and get ready for bed. At times, I employed a one to one counseling, day after day with those children who are consistently acting out. I utilized self- introspection techniques on these children because they had their own clinicians.

Part time contracted Therapist

I worked as a therapist under contract. I saw clients who were involved with the Juvenile Courts. I saw clients who adjudicated as adults, on parole as well as probation. I mainly saw these clients in the home and at times at their work sites. In addition, I saw clients who were adults and had their children removed by Child Protective Services. I worked part time while looking for other positions. I did positive re-enforcements and retrospection with these clients because they were short term.

Valley Metro, Light rails Phoenix, AZ. 2011-2012

Janitor/van driver

I worked with the light rail trains for a year and a half under contract with the city of Phoenix. I was a janitor whereby I cleaned the platforms from Mesa AZ. to Phoenix. AZ. I drove a van and cleaned the platforms daily. I would sweep the platforms, clean the seats and advertising boards. I would vigorously scrub off all the graffiti which I could. I drove around the cities and responded to all calls requiring services. I worked individually and sometimes with another person for training.

Truck Driver

I drove brand new Penske trucks for a company which deal with only Penske Trucks. I worked with a group of men who would each drive their own trucks. We start off in Phoenix and rive to the border town of Ehrenberg to pick up our new trucks. We would gas up and head West to Blythe California and settle down until the next day. We would drive to Santa Rosa California and back. We drove to Salt Lake City Utah, Albuquerque New Mexico, to Las Vegas Nevada. We always settled down in Blythe, CA.

Centro De Amistad Inc. Guadalupe, AZ Contracted Therapist 2005-2008

I worked in this agency for Children, Mental Health, Seriously Mentally Ill and Drug and Alcohol clients. I work with the CFT using the 12 principles of Child and Family Team process to individuals, and families doing home base therapy. I evaluated and screened the majority of the clients and set short, and long-term goals. I relied on behavior modification techniques in helping the clients deal with their problems.

I was responsible for supervising three case managers with a case load of ten clients each. My duties included making sure that each client received an annual assessment, updated TX plan, attended Dr Appointments, as well as nurses’ visits, and were doing what was required of them.

Home based therapist worked with individuals, families, groups in home-based schooling counseling. I served as a liaison between funding and referral sources. I completed ALFA, CANS and child assessments along with individual service plans. I completed and maintained all documentation or paperwork as required by the RBHA, (Value Options). I am quite familiar with the DSM-IV and have much experience with diagnoses and medication needs.

I investigated referrals of Adult Abuse/Neglect for the State of Arizona. I approached clients with family-oriented approach in hopes of preserving family unity and dignity. I worked closely with the Police Department and Court system on Dependency matters. I attended many Court Hearings on those matters. I did crisis intervention counseling with families for the purpose of assessment and resolution. I learned to do short terms goals for each client that was placed in the hospital. I did many removals from the home to a placement to avoid Abuse/Neglect.

EDUCATION/ TRAINING: I attended high school in the Los Angeles area where I grew up. I went to Roosevelt High in Los Angeles until the 1970’s. I joined the service in 1974 to 1976. I received an Honorable Discharge. I attended Western New Mexico University in Silver City N.M. I graduated with a Bachelor Degree in 1984 and a Master’s Degree in Counseling in 1985. I did my Internship and Practicum in an Alcoholic Treatment Unit. I did assessments and treatment plans for the patients I have worked many years in the Phoenix metropolitan area and have over 95 hours of training dating back to 2oo1.

Licensure: Eligible within Due Time.
