Duties And Responsibilities
As a Student Clinical Officer, assist in providing healthcare services under the supervision of qualified medical personnel. Responsibilities covering general patient care, maternity ward duties, and community health services.
1. General Patient Care & Clinical Duties
Taking patient history and performing physical examinations.
Assisting in diagnosing and treating common illnesses.
Prescribing medications under supervision.
Conducting minor medical procedures such as wound dressing and suturing.
Monitoring patients’ progress and reporting to senior clinicians. 2. Maternity Ward Duties
Antenatal Care (ANC)
Conducting antenatal assessments, including vital signs, fetal heart rate, and fundal height measurements.
Educating expectant mothers on nutrition, pregnancy-related complications, and safe delivery.
Identifying and referring high-risk pregnancies. Labor and Delivery Assistance
Assisting midwives and clinicians during normal deliveries.
Monitoring labor progress using the partograph.
Providing emotional support to laboring mothers.
Administering prescribed medications and IV fluids under supervision.
Assisting in managing obstetric emergencies such as postpartum hemorrhage and eclampsia.
Postnatal and Neonatal Care
Monitoring and assessing mothers and newborns after delivery.
Assisting in newborn assessments, including APGAR scoring and neonatal resuscitation if needed.
Administering Vitamin K, BCG, and polio vaccines to newborns.
