Work Experience
RN Staff Nurse
Lakeview Hospital of LCMC-Covington, LA
June 2024 to Present
I recently transferred to SBH (Geri Psych) at Lakeview. Our patients are 55 yo and older. They have suffered some type of mental illness breakdown and require inpatient psychiatric care. Their diagnoses range from Major Depressive Disorder/Suicide Ideation to Dementia with Behavior Disorder and complete Psychotic breaks. Many of our patients also have medical problems, ie, HTN, DM, COPD requiring Oxygen/ BIPAP, wound care, etc. which require nursing care, as well. I enjoy being able to spend more time with my patients. Also, after 40 years of nursing experience, I have discovered the empathy for my patients is strong and heartfelt. The future, for many of my patients, is dismal and very sad. Caring for them can be quite challenging with their bizarre behaviors, flight of ideas, and inability to focus/process any conversations/directions. I do have some experience in this field, and I’m grateful for this opportunity to change my nursing field/career path.
RN Staff Nurse
Lakeview Hospital-Covington, LA
October 2021 to June 2024
Stepdown Unit (SCU) - patients have a higher acuity than the other units at Lakeview. I was responsible for caring for patients with tracheostomies/CPAP, cardiac and other complicated drips, wound care, high acuity post operative surgical patients (TAVERS, Flaps w/drains, PEG tubes, etc.) Our unit was recognized for exemplary Stroke care and is also the Stroke Unit in the hospital. I am well versed on take care of these patients. Our patients are critical, yet, do not meet the criteria for ICU. I am able to review, in more detail, the types of patients and nursing care required of me during the interview. I worked on this unit from 10/25/2022 until 06/29/2024. I transferred to our Senior Behavior Health (Geri-psych) on 06/30/2024. RN Staff Nurse
Post Acute Medical Specialty Hospital-Covington, LA June 2021 to June 2022
Providing patient care for patients on the rehab unit. Most are admitted from area hospitals with debility. Many of the patients require high-acuity nursing care, ie colostomies, PEG tube feedings, PICC line care, indwelling catheter care, wound care, bladder scanning, providing IV antibiotics, total ADL care, etc. The nursing staff is also responsible for obtaining all lab specimens, ie blood, urine, stool, COVID. Maintaining Fall precautions and appropriate isolation for patient safety is the responsibility of all staff. Initiating/ updating care plans, as well as pt/family education is a priority. I resigned in June 2022 to care for my Dad during his last days.
