East Central Regional is a psychiatric facility in Augusta, Georgia. It sits on 420 acres out in South Augusta. It is a long-term facility that treats individual inpatients for psychiatric problems, intellectual and developmental disabilities. Eligibility for intellectual disability such as severe autism, cerebral palsy, or epilepsy that impairs intellectual by age 18) or adaptive functioning must have originated from birth or during the development years (by age 22). These factors present a truly diverse group of patients to care for and ensure safety and comfort.
My duties included assistance with activities of daily living to include personal hygiene, feeding, monitoring testing equipment, record, and monitor pre and post treatment vital signs, perform basic EKGs, and enter this data into clinical applications in a timely manner. I collected lab specimens. I was the lead technician, with responsibility for creating the daily assignments for the other technicians and assisting them with certain aspects of patient care. I was assigned a pager as needs would arise, I could be paged to respond quickly to assist with medical and personal needs for the staff and patients.
