1960-1962 Stereotyper Apprentice: Worked for owner (i.e.father) @ Jefferson Matrix Co. for two years. Duties included making mats and creating lead plates for use in lithography printing.
1962-1964 US Army: Operated and maintained Zerox copier and Photostat Machine. Completed two years as a PFC and ultimately received an Honorable Discharge in 1969. Received a Certificate of Achievement upon completion active duty.
1965-1966 “A” Chemical Operator : E.I. Dupont; Monitored and maintained numerous tank levels for sufficient levels to satisfy production demands and uptake in the C&D Poly area. Duration 1 year.
1966-1967 “A” Chemical Operator: E.I. Dupont; Monitored,
operated, and controlled process parameters in the C&D chlorobutadiene continuous operation. Became familiar with numerous distillation columns, scrubbers, stripping columns, pumps, control valves, pneumatic control loops, heat exchangers, etc. Rotated duties as sample retriever, outside operator, control room operator. 1967-1969 Assistant R&D Technician: Brown and Williamson Tobacco Corp. Formulated and created tobacco blends for testing upon pyrolysis of tobacco. Duration over one year.
!969-1969 Junior Industrial Engineer: Developed time standards for determining labor costs, created plant lay-out formats for efficient operation, and determined qualification studies of different job functions. Three months duration.
Continued Experience
1969-1971 Chief Chemical Operator: E. I. Dupont; Worked a variety of different positions in the fluorinated Hydrocarbon areas: namely F-22, F21, DFE (i.e. diflouroethane), and VF (vinyl fluoride). All operations were continuous in nature. Also loaded and unloaded tank cars. Safety was constantly applied due to the dangers of hydrofluoric acid. Complete acid suits were constantly worn in different operations. Duration 2 years.
1971-2003 Borden Chemical: Chemical Operator: Performed duties as a Formaldehyde Plant Operator. Worked during initial operation start up and continued operation of Unit. Duration 2 years. Chemical Operator: Urea/Melamine Formaldehyde Resin Plant Operator. Operated and controlled U/F and M/F manufacture from charging to final product. Duration 1 year. Quality Control Technician: Analyzed and determined both physical and chemical properties of products for shipment to customers. Monitored and controlled operations in the Waste-Water Facility. Determined COD, DO and settleable solids in in treatment unit. Duration 2 years. Shift Supervisor: Supervised ~10-20 employees throughout total plant operations. Assisted in start -up phase and continued operation of the phenol-formaldehyde plant. Duration 1 years. Worked as Senior Laboratory Technician in the R&D department. Formulated and synthesized numerous urea, melamine, phenol, acetone formaldehyde resins for a variety of applications. Entered formulations for selected resins in computer and followed through to large scale-up operations at many plant locations.
