I have worked as an Emergency Room Nurse with over 38 years of experience in level three and four emergency departments. Most of the level three departments have been very busy and with varying levels of care for all age groups of patients. For nine years I have worked in Post Anesthesia Care Unit Nursing, serving patients with a variety of general surgeries and orthopedic, GYN, ENT, including pediatric age groups. For six months I have worked in the pre-operative area as well. My experience also includes home health and delegation nursing for a total of 10 years. Emergency Department I worked in a busy 12 bed ED, with 4 to 1 ratio. Caring for and assessing multiple types of injuries and illnesses, including Cardiac, Stemi, and Level 3 trauma. Level 3 trauma required preparation for transfer to Level 1 care hospitals. Average census was 80 patients per day.
Post Anesthesia Care Unit for 5 years in a moderately busy PACU, serving total joint patients, variety of abdominal surgeries, ENT, Orthopedics, and GYN. Most of our patients have had general anesthesia or spinal anesthesia. We are required to be able to extubate patients and assist in airway management.
