D.O.B. November 5, 1946
Place of birth Starkville, MS
EDUCATION: BS, MS State Univ.
EARLY LIFE: Grew up on family dairy farm, where I operated farm equipment from age 5 and raised dairy & beef cattle, while overseeing cattle operations.
After completing high school, went on to attend MSU, WHERE I completed
R.O.T.C., receiving commission as officer in U.S. Army.
Entered active duty in August, 1969, and appointed Armored Platoon Leader
of thirty soldiers, several Combat Veterans
Following Jungle Warfare Training, where I achieved Medal as “Jungle Expert.”
Assigned as Advisor to Vietnamese Army unit.
On October 12, 1969, was severely wounded by enemy fire, with subsequent
Medical Disability retirement and Award of Purple Heart
.After extensive rehabilitation following return from Vietnam to MS, I resumed
ownership/management of my cattle-raising business, where I employed as many
as 60 at the same time.
Retired from that business in 1998 and moved to TX, in order to be nearer my
only sibling, who, then, lived in Austin, TX.
Soon, thereafter, I bought a home in and moved to nearby Pflugerville, where
I, as soon as possible, joined First Baptist Church and became an active member,
enjoying singing as part of the Adult choir since joining that church in 9/1998!
In 2003, I became involved in the Disaster Relief ministry of the TX Southern
Baptist Convention, with which I’ve deployed to more than 100 disasters-many in
positions of authority-both in TX and numerous other states.
During several deployments, my ministry has called for MY OPERATION OF FORK
LIFTS for several hours/every day for as long as a week, in order to enhance the
group’s effectiveness while ministering to people in need.
Today, though I’m “retired,” I’m perfectly capable of working hard, and I’m still
capable of efficiently operating the machinery I’ve used many times in the past!
(As a side note: I exercise vigorously, including lifting heavy weights for an hour
per day on three days per week; plus I vigorously walk at least five miles per day!)
