I was hired as an assembler in a heat-treating facility. We assembled products for major government companies, such as engine casing for Rolls Royce jets. Another one of my favorites were the scopes put on snipers. I was trained to located a certain area of each part to apply a metal paste after the assembly was completed. After that, the parts are set up and ran in a furnace where they will be brazed. Upon completion, we were to inspect the finish product before releasing it back to our customer.

After almost 2 years as braze technician, I was asked to assist the Shipping & Receiving department as they were short-handed. Here I learned about the other 80% of the business’ services while training to drive a forklift, dealing with customers face-to-face, by phone or by my assigned email address. We would receive parts with POs and I would verify quantity, dimensions & weights and input the information into our data entry. Upon completion of our services, I would then be responsible for safely & effectively packing everything back up. I would do this for our local customers, as well as the ones we had out-of-state, using FedEx, UPS and their freight services every day.

After 7 years of working for this great company, I was asked to be a part of their sales team. Existing customers as well as potential prospects supplied their blueprints with info on the quantities and the services they required. Most of the services we offer are required to go by Specification. I had to read and study about 50+ Specifications which varied between 20-50 pages long. After confirming our approvals per the Specifications, my duty was to offer competitive pricing to keep the existing customers and to draw in more. I worked directly with the front office when issues would arise with our Net30 or COD customers. I also worked directly with Shipping & Receiving as well as the rest of the shop to follow up on Special or Expedited Orders.
