• Lead a highly skilled engineering and architecture team that design and execute continuous deployment of a software-defined secure, private global network to mitigate risk and foster cohesive connectivity from legacy on-prem environments to cloud including full stack automation of ground to cloud connectivity and front door unified (multi-cloud) landing zones leveraging F5 web application firewalls (WAF).
• Key liaison for infrastructure to lines of business to facilitate merger / acquisition activity and align resources as appropriate.
• Responsibilities include overseeing a departmental annual operating budget of $11MM, working with FP&A teams to analyze and provide forecasts based on current run-rates, and securing capital for strategic investments within the network/cloud infrastructure space. INVESCO 3/2017 – 1/2020
CHIEF ARCHITECT – NETWORK ENGINEERING – BACKBONE & EDGE
• Architected and led the deployment of Invesco’s next generation wide-area network world-wide utilizing both terrestrial and subsea private fiber wavelengths, establishing an ultra-highly available, scalable, and secure platform dual stacked with IPv4 and IPv6 to ensure continuity in a highly automated environment.
• Established 12 key points of presence globally to house key infrastructure to support a global hybrid cloud offering as well as regional compute and storage solutions to eliminate the traditional
‘hair pinning’ of client/server traffic.
• Responsible for the design and deployment of Internet edge architecture around the world to ensure branch offices and trading platforms are as close to the content/consumer as possible.
• Negotiate transit, peering and circuits that support our strategic initiatives. RICE UNIVERSITY 10/2012 – 1/2017
MANAGER OF NETWORKING
• Technical manager leading a team of six network architects and network engineers responsible for RiceNet Network Operations, Southeast Texas Giga POP ‘SETG’ Network Operations
(Regional Research and Education Network), and Transformation Projects.
• Improved network availability from 99.9% to 99.999% with the successful upgrade and deployment to carrier-grade DC power systems
• Led the transformation of Rice University’s “RiceNet” campus network to a 100G backbone. The transformation project included a $20MM network refresh, deployment of Cisco and ADVA DWDM, Cisco CRS and ASR 9000 routing platforms, high levels of automation and virtualization, and the building of operating procedures for transfer to operations.
• Designed and led the successful campus-wide implementation of IPv6 utilizing MPLS 6vPE.
• Served as peering coordinator, successfully negotiating 12 interconnection agreements with ISPs and CDNs (e.g. Akamai, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Amazon)
• Hired, led and mentored high performance network engineering team.
• Delivered on financial objectives, delivering under budget the operations and projects budgets for the fiscal year.
