I currently work as a charge nurse on a long-term structured residence with 16 patients. The most common diagnoses found on my unit are schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, bipolar, borderline personality disorder, depression, anxiety, drug and alcohol addiction, and PTSD.
oThis facility focuses on medication education, medication administration, supporting patients by helping manage their mental and physical symptoms, increase independence, and help them reach their recovery goals.
oAs the charge nurse, I handle the admissions, discharges, charting, vital signs, scheduling medical appointments, making the mars, building charts, medication administration, giving long-acting injections, wound care, medical care, insurance information, and address any other needs that may arise. I collaborate with fellow staff, medical doctors, the psychiatrist, service coordinators, family members, and most importantly, the patient to provide them with the best level of care that they deserve.
oI have trained and mentored many nurses in my current role.
oI have utilized my artistic skills to draw pictures and write motivation quotes weekly that help patients express their emotions and thoughts, as well as decrease their stress levels.
