PROJECT
Louisiana Health Information Network (LHIN)
The purpose of the extract is to allow more efficient transfers of care, reduced readmissions, and better outcomes for high-risk populations throughout the state.
By providing in to the extract to the Network it also enables providers to receive alerts for patients who have been admitted or discharged in near real-time.
This extract, is installed in multiple Cerner hospital clients though out Louisiana. Each record in the extract is formatted into a fixed width record some 5200 characters in length and describes over 260 different aspects of the hospital encounter (visit).
These 260+ fields are drawn from a database (Cerner Millennium) that has hundreds of tables and thousands of fields. Finding the expected data efficiently requires a high level of knowledge of the database, a great deal of data mining as well as testing to pick the correct data and finally a great deal of (ETL) knowhow to get it formatted in an acceptable record(s) for the extract.
Finally, the extract has to be scheduled and transferred to the Network for addition to the LHIN data warehouse
