I currently work part time as a Lab assistant for Skagit Regional Health as a Per Diem for their clinics. My responsibilities as a Lab assistant is to draw patients blood through venipuncture using a straight needle, butterfly or syringe. We use Epic to pull up patients orders and proceed with the blood draw. I make sure I keep the patients calm while explaining the process of drawing their blood. I currently hold a 0.6 FTE morning shift Monday, Tuesday and every other weekend in the ED Patient Access Department. My job consists of checking patients into the emergency room, verifying their personal information, adding insurance,making sure the correct insurance is being billed for that encounter. I am also responsible for making a claim if the reason for visit requires me to do so as well as L&I, MVA, and Crime Victims. Another one of my responsibilities is to make sure patient valuables are put away and charted in the safe if someone is being admitted to the hospital. I am required to get the consent and hipaa signatures from the patient, parent or POA. My job also requires me to take ambulance calls from the nurses station and call codes in the appropriate timing as well as making sure they are logged in the code book. I am also responsible for obtaining medicare messages for patients who are going to be admitted into the hospital as inpatients or observations who are covered under a medicare plan. Part of my job duties also include completing bedside registration for patients who are admitted to the hospital up on the floors therefore I am required to verify their demographics, obtain all signatures such as HIPAA, Consent for Treatment and Medicare Message.
