Professional Experience

December 1974 to July 1981: Prince Albert Pulp Co.

Performed all steam plant operations duties including; spouts, water treatment, power boiler assistant, evaporator operator, power boiler operator, turbine operator, recovery boiler operator. B&W boilers operating at 650 psi and a 20 MW axial flow Stal-Laval back pressure turbine.

July 1981 to July 1988: Sask Power

Spent 2 years in Coronach Saskatchewan at Poplar River Power Station as shift foreman and was involved in the commissioning of their #1 300 MW Hitachi unit supplied by a 1800 psi 400 MW CE boiler ( low grade lignite coal ). Spent 5 years as shift foreman at Boundary Dam Power Station on their 150 MW #5 1800 psi generator set and 300 MW 1800 psi #6 generator set.

August 1988 to July 2013: Capital Power ( formerly Edmonton Power and EPCOR )

Commissioning of #2- 400 MW GE turbine supplied by 16 MPA - 400 MW CE boiler as shift foreman was the first job. Over the 25 years with this company I have worked in all the plants (Cloverbar, Genesee and Rossdale) at all the jobs in operations and act as shift foreman at the Genesee Generating Station which houses Alberta’s first super critical ( 24 MPA Benson Boiler ) turbo set – 500 MW Genesee #3.

July 2013 to August 2013: Suncor Energy at Firebag ( SAGD )

Started as a field trainer in the Steam, Water, Co-gen phase 3 area for 4 months and have been a simulator specialist for all areas for the last 9.5 years

Education and Training

Graduated from Innisfail High School in June 1972 with matriculation

Acquired 4th Class Power Engineering certification in June of 1975. Did 4th, 3rd,2nd and 1st class correspondence courses out of SAIT and passed all final exams . Received 1st Class Power Engineer Certificate in November 1980. Never failed a steam exam from SAIT or ABSA and received 1st class certification in least amount of time possible.

Started on a business degree out of Athabasca University by correspondence. Passed 6 courses of the required 22 in 6 months and then hired on with SaskPower and went another direction.

General

I’m currently in a job that will take me nicely to the finish line of my career but it would be nice to be closer to home, and I’m not ready to retire yet. I would be willing to look at a job that pays out at contractor rates and reduces liability to the company. I look forward to discussing this further with a company representative.
