As an officer with DHS/CBP my duties entailed, but were not limited to, inspection and examination of persons and their belongings to better facilitate freedom of movement while also enforcing the primary mission of the agency to protect the nation from terror and the instruments of terror as well. I gained valuable knowledge in Title 8USC as well as its application and successfully interviewed hundreds of persons to apply the correct section of law including, but not limited to, refusing admission, making arrests, seizing property for subject matter review, as well as HUMINT (human intelligence gathering). I also became the designated Subject Matter Expert (SME) for east Asian organized crime identification and activities in the Port of Chicago area. Additionally, I served as the Chicago point of contact for a nation-wide operation regarding human sex trafficking. Furthermore, I researched and developed a successful port wide operation for drug interdiction. My work as an officer led to analysis of trends occurring both port and nationwide as well as development of relationships with internal and external stake holders to further the goals of the agency.

Enforcement of title(s) 18USC & 41CFR at GSA controlled facilitates through fixed post, vehicle and foot patrol. Uniform force protection and preservation of property, employees, and visitors to government facilities including response to crimes, disturbances, emergency situations, alarms, calls for medical assistance and inspection of vehicles and cargo. Providing direction and assistance to visitors, maintenance of law and order, preliminary investigation of incidents, conducting field interviews, detaining suspicious individuals to determine if a crime has been committed. Preparation of incident/offense reports for forwarding to DHS/FPS personnel. From 10/03/03 I served as the Sr. Lieutenant for the US. Courthouse/8th Circuit Court of Appeals. My responsibilities included the above as well as implementation of the physical security program, inspection of officers to ensure compliance with the DHS/FPS requirements and standards, site-training officers per FPS requirements and supervision/assurance that said training is completed in entirety and issuing discrepancy report as necessary. I also served as point of contact with tenant agencies such as the USMS, Secret Service, etc. My duties required me to carry a firearm. Title 41CFR granted detainment authority for the purposes of investigation of incidents occurring of federal property. Enforcement of St. Louis Title 14 (Liquor Control Governance) and appropriate public morals statutes with the City of St. Louis including, but not limited to, certification of applicants required documentation as well as the owners/employee’s criminal history and actual identity. Conducting field interviews, inspection of licensed premises, undercover operations, surveillance, seizure of evidence for trial, transportation of evidence to the MO Dept. of Public Safety Laboratory for testing when necessary. Vehicular patrols, preparing arrest, investigation, and violation reports and service of subpoenas. Crowd control at large events such as Mardi Gras, Fair St. Louis and when violations warranted immediate suspension and closure of licensed facilities. I also codified a system for the grading of intelligence information received from online, open source, anonymous and confidential informants to more efficiently allocate human capital resources more effectively. I also handled several hidden ownership investigations and successfully prevented the takeover of a licensed facility by a traditional organized crime group which resulted in convictions at the federal level.
