OBJECTIVE

Employment as an animal scientist in a university setting supporting development of drugs, treatment or novel foods to affect neurological disorders, cancer and other medical problems. Highly motivated, flexible and reliable.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PATENTS GRANTED

Raskin, Ilya; Ilić, Nebojša; Kuhn, Peter. Methods for reducing circulating glucose levels. U.S. Patent # 7,875,300, January, 2011

Employment And Research Experiences

Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey Feb. 2019-now

Research Associate

Office of Research and Development

Lead, collaborate, and assist research using pig corneal In vitro assay for Drug Discovery to repair corneal injuries. Tested platelet extract’s role in accelerating the healing process in these corneas. Experience in coculturing pig corneas with stem cells to ascertain if the stem cells produce biomarkers that would enhance the healing process. Library of biomarkers would be identified by Luminex assays using human or porcine specific assays. Analysis of biological materials using cell counts, cytokine analysis and protein determination.

Assist research in protein determination using Bradford/Pierce assays for determining cAMP levels using cAMP elisa.

Create ideas and produce designs of biosafety or animal use protocols.

Manage culture room duties on multiple sites for maintenance of multiple cell lines for cancer and signal transduction projects. Cell lines maintained include transformed cell lines and primary cultures derived from umbilical cord or bone.

Use of mouse models and mating procedures to create fluorescent mice that will be used to study specific cells lines to repair spinal cord injuries. Maintained mouse colony and mated mice to develop cre-lox fluorescent strains.

Lead, collaborate, and assist research on Drugs activity on transformed cell lines and analyzed using flow cytometric analysis of cell lines to determine apoptotic population of cells. Use of artificial tissue culture methods to test drugs that are treatments for cancer models.

Assisted scientists in anti-breast cancer drug discovery by culturing breast tumor cell lines to be injected into mouse breast tissue.

Injections of drugs using intraperitoneal, suborbital, intravenous, and post oral injection sites.

Lead, collaborate, and assist research in isolation of bone marrow to produce mesenchymal stem cells in culture and bone smears.

Trained by a group that instructs scientists to perform spinal cord (T9-T10) injuries in rats and performed surgeries in small number of rats to mimic human spinal cord injuries.

Lead, collaborate, and assist research in the use of tissue engineered human cell-based constructs in hanging well format, treatment of transformed cells to discover new anti-cancer drugs,

Analysis of data, statistical evaluation of data, and generation of reports to parties that we are performing experiments to complete studies for outside organizations.

Ordering supplies and maintenance of supply records.

Laboratory Researcher III with Ilya Raskin

Department of Plant Biology

School of Environmental and Biological Sciences

Studied effect of plant extracts on metabolic syndrome and inflammatory models.

Lead, collaborate, and assist research on reduction of reactive oxygen species in the gastrointestinal gut. Established a technique to validate chemical detection of reactive oxygen species in mouse gut using in vivo techniques with focuses on use of plant extracts to reduce the presence of ROS in the gut. Analysis was performed using fluorescence In vivo MS FX and x-ray imaging.

Pharmacokinetics by terminal cardiac puncture, Saphenous vein, tail vein, submandibular and retro-orbital blood collection.

Experienced in use of plethysmometer and EcoMRI.

Procurement specialist for the lab using Rutgers online Marketplace/Cornerstone purchasing system and developed animal protocols for IACUC.

Rutgers University New Brunswick, NJ

Post-Doctoral Research Associate with Dipak Sarkar

Department of Animal Sciences

Study the effects of ethanol in rats on the number of beta-endorphin cells and apoptosis in the arcuate nucleus using in vivo and in vitro techniques.

Experience in use of Zeiss microscope from Micron Optics using Image ProPlus confocal microscopy and laser capture microdissection techniques.

Apoptosis was analyzed by TUNEL staining and ELISA reaction.

Performed cryostat sectioning of brain, paraffin embedding of ovary, and pituitary organs.

Created primary cultures of hypothalamic cells by collecting hypothalamus of embryonic brains

Surgical Technique: ovariectomies.

Expert in animal restraint; salistic implantation subcutaneous / intraperitoneal / intradermal injection, rat castration, and rat ovariectomy.

Columbia University New York, NY

Post-doctoral Research Scientist with Ron Liem

Pathology

Used embryonic stem cell lines to develop a knockout mouse line with a mutated intermediate filament gene for knockout microinjection techniques
