It opened the door to work and research in microbiology, biochemistry, analytical chemistry,immunology and cell culture.

I have gained two years of experience in laboratory safety, WHMIS, quality of products and maintenance and /or calibration of equipment. I have learned to emphasize on accurate and complete documentation methods.

I have learned principles of quality assurance and quality control in the lab. We have used LIMS software in the lab for quality of the Data. I have received training in applied microbiology. Topics include growth and fermentation technology, sampling, isolation, environmental microbiology, enrichment and enumeration methods, Food and water microbiology, viruses, bioremediation, toxicity testing methods, quality assurance in microbiology, HACCP.

PROJECTS

Quantifying and identifying microbes within a commercial vermicompost sample from Annelida organics company during the final semester of the program at NAIT.

- The goal of the student-led research project is to determine the composition of the product. We performed several microbiological tests and conducted further analysis of microbes and performed PCR to identify genes that promote better growth of plants such as nitrogen fixing-Nif genes.
