In executing executive communications for four Ohio State presidents: E. Gordon Gee, Joseph Alutto

(interim), Michael V. Drake and Kristina Johnson, I developed higher education expertise and collaborated with communicators, designers and colleagues throughout the university, including Advancement, Government Affairs and Enrollment Services. I have extensive experience writing about higher education through internal/external communications, executive communications, college marketing materials and digital communications.

Management and Collaboration

As the leader of Executive Communications, I worked to promote a collaborative atmosphere that integrated creativity and trust with excellence and accountability. In my various roles, I have built partnerships with colleagues across campus and in the community, working closely with the Office of the President, Marketing and Communications, Commencement and Special Events, and many others. As communications went digital, I seized an opportunity to take on a dual role that required writing for both print and digital communications. As director of Executive Communications, I oversaw the presidential website and digital accounts; co-created a blog for senior leaders; and collaborated with multimedia colleagues to create videos/campaigns/features.

EXPERIENCE

Director, Executive Communications, Ohio State 2011-2021 Provided strategic direction and oversight for executive communications for three Ohio State presidents, including speeches, remarks/briefings, editorials, correspondence and social media. Developed communication strategies and messaging that advanced the university’s brand and mission and connected with broad constituencies. Collaborated on high-level university priorities such as presidential transition/welcome, Commencement, Pelotonia and other fundraising events, and Board of Trustees meetings. Editor, Editorial Content, Print and Digital Communications, Ohio State 2008-2011 Wrote features for Ohio State home page. Developed content for university websites. Managed the Ohio State Twitter account. Lead writer for institutional content. Wrote and edited newsletter with 300,000+ distribution.
