Director of Strategic Sourcing

Market leader in providing Intermodal Services for all major railroad (BNSF, Norfolk Southern, CN, Union Pacific) providers across North America. Purchase categories include Chassis/Trailer repair parts (OEM and Aftermarket), Tires/Tire Services, Lift Equipment M&R, and Capital Expenditures.

Chartered to structure a best practice strategic sourcing and procurement organization, capable of delivering overall cost reduction and improved service levels to our corporate and affiliated locations (100+ BU’s nationwide, including Canada and South America). Accountable for all procurement operations, at a total annual spend in excess of $100M. Reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer. Direct and indirect reports include Purchasing Managers, Senior Buyers, Category Managers, and Buyers.

Led Procurement transition from a task-oriented to a strategic category-based model, resulting in the elimination of redundant suppliers, material cost reduction due to increased leverage and purchase volume, and improved on-time delivery performance.

Redefined and implemented new roles and responsibilities for Procurement and Supply Chain Management. Created new procurement infrastructure to increase strategic category management while streamlining or eliminating low-value tactical activities.

Crafted and executed comprehensive sourcing strategies across all key and strategic purchase categories. Negotiated and secured fixed/reduced contract pricing equating to $4.5M in hard cost reduction (one year), against a $63M spend.

Managed $11M Capital Expense spend, delivering all requested equipment and services on-time and (2%) under overall budget.

Provided all Procurement support to facilitate 8 new (start-up) locations, over a 7-month period. Executed all needs related to heavy equipment, vehicles, tools, shop supplies, safety gear, etc. to meet customer start dates.

RTC INDUSTRIES, Rolling Meadows, IL 2011 - 2017

Senior Manager - Strategic Sourcing, Procurement and Supply Chain

International manufacturer of complex retail display systems as well as full store environments for all major retail chains and consumer products manufacturers worldwide. Purchase categories include injection molded plastics, metal fabrication, wood manufacturing, electronic components, printed graphics, metal/plastic extrusions, tooling, capital equipment, and MRO.

Managed the creation and implementation of Sales and Operations Planning for entire SRS (Store-Ready Solutions) product line. Engaged Sales, Operations, Finance and the supply base to establish minimum stocking levels, monthly replenishment quantities, safety stocks, and subassembly/WIP production plans. Improved service levels from 90% to 95+%, while reducing inventories $575K (32%).

Developed KPI’s and reporting tools (inventories, cost reduction, service levels, supplier performance) to capture and communicate targeted category and supplier performance improvement.

Led an inventory management/reduction initiative to secure correct stocking levels for high-turn products, while reducing slow and obsolete inventory through modified subassembly plans, supplier renegotiation on minimum order quantities, faster sales communication related to potential obsolescence, and timely disposition of non-conforming materials.

Global Sourcing and Supply Chain Manager

ITW Brands (a division of Illinois Tool Works) is a multinational manufacturer and distributor of highly engineered tools, fasteners, and related components.

Developed and maintained sourcing vision, processes, and infrastructure for selecting, managing, and developing the organization’s strategic supply base. Executed unified processes that improved cost, quality, delivery, and service criteria while fostering long-term sustainable relationships throughout the overall supply chain.

Created and implemented supply strategies for all key offshore products, assuring an efficient flow of materials and 99%+ service levels to our customers. Strategies included demand planning, dual-sourcing, safety stock, and make/buy analysis. Product quality and service levels were maintained as product costs and inventory fell below established targets.

Led comprehensive cost reduction initiative across all products sourced from offshore. Qualified new sources, created supply strategies, negotiated costs, led on-site (Asia) supplier audits. Results led to $2M in cost reduction ($15M overall spend) in 2009 against 2008 actual costs.

Led 2009 ocean freight contract negotiations for products imported from Asia. Conducted offshore lane analysis (including BAF and Accessorials) and reduced overall FCL and LCL 2009 rates by $280K ($1.4M spend) against 2008 actual costs.

ELECTROMOTIVE, INC., LaGrange, IL 2006 - 2007

Strategic Sourcing Specialist

Global manufacturer of diesel/hybrid locomotives, serving all domestic and international railroads as well as all aftermarket/OEM requirements.

Responsibilities included international product sourcing and supply planning to meet overall forecast and manufacturing plan.

Qualified, negotiated, and implemented new supplier (Brazil) for forged locomotive wheels. Gained $3.4M savings (annualized) and increased available capacity by 84%.

Negotiated and implemented multi-year supply agreement for cast steel truck frames from a sole-sourced supplier. Secured capacity and fixed pricing against tight supply and inflationary market.

FELLOWES, INC., Itasca, IL 2001 - 2006

Supply Chain Manager

Worldwide supplier of Office Products, PC/Notebook Computer Accessories, Mobile Telephone/Commercial Headsets, and Media Labeling/Storage Products.

Responsibilities encompassed all aspects of Supply Chain Management of the Technical Accessories SBU, including demand management, international strategic sourcing, cost reduction, inventory/customer service levels, performance measurement, and new product introduction.

Actively managed entire supply chain of Body Glove mobile telephone accessories, and successfully launched four new product lines, both on time and at projected margins.

Reduced cell phone case inventories 36% ($1.2M) over 6 months, as well as reduced cell phone headset inventories 30% ($700K) over twelve months, through package standardization, redress of slow/obsolete inventory, supplier leadtime reduction, and improved demand management. Maintained 97% (or above) service level over the same periods.

CTS WIRELESS COMPONENTS, INC., Bloomingdale, IL 1999 - 2001

Global Commodities Manager

Worldwide manufacturer and supplier of electronic components and devices to the wireless communications industry. Primary customers include Motorola, Nokia, and Samsung.

Responsibilities included the strategic management of all passive electronic components, printed circuit boards, ceramic packages, semiconductors, and contract assembly operations.

Successfully negotiated supply contracts for outsourced assemblies (voltage-controlled oscillators, surface acoustic wave filters). Achieved $864K (19%) savings in 1999 against actual 1998 prices paid.

Initiated and implemented USD exchange agreements, insulating costs from global currency fluctuation.
