Site Pastor, Downtown Los Angeles Campus & Community Outreach Pastor

I planted and established a Skid Row Community Church within the Union Rescue Mission. Our Beloved community grew to an average attendance of 150-200. I developed a volunteer & Leadership Team of over 75 people. I also started and continue to lead a successful Virtual Deep-Dive Bibles Study using Zoom for seniors. We regularly received over 100 views weekly on FaceBook and posted on YouTube.

Responsibilities included:

● I served as the DTLA Site Pastor of Faithful Central Bible Church (FCBC) Downtown Los Angeles Campus, Los Angeles, CA 90013. FCBC-DTLA is the urban satellite of FCBC Inglewood, CA. I was responsible for the Spiritual Direction and encouragement of the residents and stakeholders of the Union Rescue Mission and Los Angeles’ Skid Row community and our Family of Champions DTLA Campus members. Our strategy was based on Dr. MLK Jr’s Beloved Community, and we promoted Love In Action as our social action advocacy motto.

● I preached Sunday Sermons and taught midweek Bible Studies. I provided prayer and pastoral counseling for individuals’ marriages and families. I served as an advocate for ending the ongoing crisis of people experiencing homeless.

● I also participated in the LAHSA Homeless count for several years in Inglewood and Skid Row to stay informed of the services and needs of the homeless communities.

● I took a creative, strategic approach to fight Homelessness. Using a collaborative approach to fight homelessness, I first connected FCBC-DTLA with the Los Angeles Central Providers Collaborative (LACPC) <adze49@r.postjobfree.com>. I established FCBC as a voting member of The LACPC. LACPC is an alliance of organizations committed to addressing issues of poverty and homelessness in the Skid Row and Central City areas of Downtown Los Angeles through service coordination and advocacy.

● My personal and scholarly experience with the faith traditions of Abraham, i.e., Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and my study of world religions gave me religious intelligence to work with people of all faiths and orientations. I strategically use my unique sacred blend and spiritual community connections to coordinate Faith Based organizations into direct community improvement agents.

● My final project for FCBC was to develop a strategic partnership with World Vision International. World Vision International (WV) is an evangelical Christian humanitarian aid, development, and advocacy organization with a revenue of 2.9 billion USD (2019). We established the collaboration to make FCBC a regional distribution hub for new and slightly used big-box retailer household products to churches and Community Base organizations

(CBO). After establishing the Memorandum of Understanding, I invited religious organizations and CBOs to become distribution points of 30 to 50 thousand dollars worth of Household goods twice per month in their neighborhood and communities. We did this in a way that made the local faith-based institution and CBO a significant source of no-cost household goods and supplies. We called the project Operation Hope it is still providing hope for families and individuals.

Los Angeles Community Church,

2100 W. 54th Street LA, CA (2009-2013)

Senior Pastor

Initially, I was brought in to fill the vacated pulpit of a pastor who was relieved of duty for mismanaging the church’s finances. The congregation’s spirit was low, and the attendee dwindled to a tiny remnant. My wife and I loved and restored the community to spiritual and emotional health. We grew the congregation from a few to over one hundred regular attendees. I was hired to be the full-time pastor of the congregation. I initiated and nurtured a vision of being an outward-focused community church versus a denominational inward-focused church. We connected with city councilman Bernard Parks to bring backpacks filled with school supplies to the families in the neighborhood. We collaborated to engage in community development and improvements to our area. In line with our vision, we changed the church’s name to Los Angeles Community Church (LACC).
