Previous Work Experience
I was a certified sign language interpreter for the Deaf for almost 25 years, from 1978 to 2002. Customer service skills included providing the best facilitation of communication between Deaf and hearing clients in medical, educational, employment, and platform settings. I became disabled and unable to interpret in 2002.
I had part time positions as a market research interviewer to supplement my income between 1986 and 1991. At the NPD Group, I always met my quota and management promoted me to shift supervisor. I trained new employees and coached them until they were comfortable working the phones.
In addition, I was Secretary to the Executive Director at the National Center for Law and the Deaf. I assisted with putting grants together. One involved a grant from VISTA Volunteers to bring a Deaf attorney, Deaf program coordinator, and two Deaf clerical assistants.
My earliest employment was as the Unit secretary (clerk typist) for the Hearing and Speech Department at the Maryland Rehabilitation Center. There I learned to perform basic screenings using the audiometer

I am and have been a mentor.
