Dr. Richard Parrish is a PhD-trained, board certified clinical pharmacist with 45 years of experience in clinical practice, administration, and academia. Currently, he is a consultant in private practice. Prior to this appointment, he was Professor of Pharmacology and founding faculty at Mercer University School of Medicine in Columbus, GA, Director and Chief Pharmacist at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, and Clinical Associate Professor at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Pharmacy. Other career assignments include Clinical Practice Leader for Alberta Health Services in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Director of Clinical Pharmacy and Residency Programs at Children’s National Health System, Washington, DC, and assistant professor of pharmacy practice at Shenandoah University School of Pharmacy in Winchester, VA. He has published three books and over 75 manuscripts in peer-reviewed pharmacy and non-pharmacy journals, and presented numerous podium and posters at national and international meetings. As Director, Dr. Parrish has led the implementation of both Cerner and Epic hospital computer systems conversions in adult and pediatric hospitals, and often served as the pharmacy informatics liaison with clinical informatics implementation teams for local and corporate committees. Since 2017, he is an inaugural co-chair for a United States Pharmacopeia (USP) Expert Panel that will facilitate exchange of compounded drug preparation information across health information systems. In early 2017, the Ministry of Health of the government of Singapore invited Richard to give a week-long series of lectures, workshops, and roundtables on a number of clinical pharmacy topics. Richard was invited to present on trends and priorities in compounded pediatric preparations at USP’s Inaugural Workshop on Evolution and Advances in Pediatric Compounding in 2018, and in 2019, he was invited to present “Reducing Medication Errors from Electronic Prescription Transmission” at USP’s Inaugural Pharmacoinformatics Workshop. Dr. Parrish is a Board-Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) and was elected as an American College of Clinical Pharmacy Fellow in 2013. Richard was selected as a 2017 Distinguished Alumnus from the College of Pharmacy at Ohio State. In 2022, the Clinical Administration Practice and Research Network of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy recognized Dr. Parrish with a career achievement award for excellence in the pharmacy profession through sustained contributions in leadership, practice, education, research, and service.
