Zimmerman Associates, Inc. (ZAI) has openings for Material Handlers for our work at a prominent federal library in Washington, DC. Qualified candidates will perform the vital tasks of retrieving, sorting, loading, moving and shelving print materials for one of the world's largest libraries. Candidates must be able to understand and acquire instructions as necessary in order to be able to follow library classification schedules -- uses letters and/or numbers to arrange books so that books on the same topic are together -- to sort and shelve materials and to independently move materials as required.

Job Type: Full-time (Onsite Opportunity/No Remote Work Available) Pay: 17.00 HRLY plus $4.41 (H&W) Fringe Benefits

Responsibilities to Include the following:

• Pre-sorts incoming and returned-from-use material on book trucks by class, subclass, or special sequence and according to the library distribution plan.

• Shelves and interfiles materials in the library's shelving stacks following the library's classification system sequencing.

• Breaks down bins and trucks containing new acquisitions, reorganizes materials into containers according to the type of item and delivery location, removes and stages out- of-scope and damaged material.

• Transports book trucks and bins to designated locations.

• Packs print materials into appropriate containers.

• Shifts materials and adds, adjusts, or removes shelving to accommodate various sized volumes Re-labels shelving ranges with corresponding classification numbers.

• Input data related to inventory control and tracking for items received, organized, transported, etc.

• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent, BA/BS preferred.

• Previous experience in a library, including book processing, shelving and/or shifting materials is preferred but not required.

• Previous experience as a material handler or Warehouse Associate who has moved stock, documented deliveries, managed different goods and monitored supplies is a plus.

• Familiarity with the general physical arrangement of a library and the classification systems used in libraries is preferred. However, having a demonstrated ability to quickly learn new things in order to become professionally trained to ensure one's ability to sort and organize specific library materials will be considered.

Physical Requirements:

• Must be able to move from place to place within the location; lift, push/pull, hold/carry items weighing up to (50) pounds.

• Must be able to stoop and lift materials from the ground and bottom shelves.

• Ability to push carts and trucks weighing up to two hundred pounds.

• Ability to work in a cool and sometime dusty environment
