WORK EXPERIENCE CONT’D
IVANHOE MINES LIMITED, Vancouver, Canada
General Director/Country Manager Kazakhstan Jan 2007 – Dec 2009 Bakyrchik Mining Venture – Almaty and Auezov Kazakhstan Ivanhoe Mines subsidiary Central Asian Mining Limited (CAML) holds a 70% interest in the Bakrychik Mining Venture (BMV). The Bakyrchik property is an underground gold deposit located in the village of Auezov approximately 1,100 km north-east of Almaty (the former capital city of Kazakhstan) and about 100 km from Ust Kamenogorsk. BMV also has a support office located in Almaty Kazakhstan. The ore deposit is said to be “double refractory” in nature which increases the processing difficulty. BMV is currently completing the construction of a pilot plant capable of processing 200,000 TPA, using a rotary kiln to oxidize the ore, followed by conventional grinding and cyanidation of the calcine. The ore will be mined underground using a mechanized underhand drift and fill, with a cemented paste backfill and initially accessed from a ramp driven from the bottom of the No. 4 pit. As the General Director, reporting to the President of Ivanhoe Gold Division, I am the key executive in Kazakhstan with the mandate to lead the development of this project successfully, on-time and within budget and to ensure that a fully competent operational organization is hired and trained. HIGH RIVER GOLD, Toronto, Canada
Project Director Russia. Oct 2006 – Jan 2007
Berezitovy Project – Siberia Russia
Project Director responsible for the development, construction, start-up, and commissioning of a 4,000 TPD gold processing plant located in Siberia. Responsibilities also included ensuring that all areas of this project are engineered and planned to meet objectives, including productivity, timing, safety, environment and budget and uses the best technology available within the acceptable limits of legal, technical and financial risk. The current estimated capital cost is $111 million which includes pre-stripping and mining costs. The gold recovery process uses a crushing and grinding circuit followed by a cyanidation circuit and a carbon-in-pulp (CIP) plant. The tailings are transported by gravity through a pipeline to a tailings filtration plant where the slurry is dewatered to produce semi-dry tailings solid. Using four pressure filters, the semi-dry tailings are placed in a lined engineered impoundment. The facility is designed with a zero-discharge water recovery system.
