Verizon - Hopelawn, NJNovember 1996 to June 2022
I started my career at Verizon (Bell Atlantic) in November 1996. I was an I&M technician. My job included the install of new and additional service and phone jacks. I was also required to trouble shoot and restore any problems with a customers phone service and or equipment.
I also spent time on specialty projects such as installation and maintenance of Direct TV Satellite systems. And a project Bell Atlantic smart house/Verizon ready house systems. Here we installed systems in new homes including. Cat. 5 wiring for phone and Data, Coaxial cable for TV and security cameras as well as speaker wire for surround sound and multi room speaker systems.
I spent time training other technicians in all three aspects of these jobs.
My last 15 years with Verizon I was an Outside Plant Technician. I drove an A class air break truck with a trailer at times. When called for I would coordinate with job site supervisors to work on the project at hand. Our job included the placement and removal of phone cables and utility poles. In my early years with Verizon (Bell Atlantic at the time) I served 19 months as a field supervisor overseeing technicians with installs and maintenance of Direct TV Satellite systems and Bell Atlantic smart house systems.
In each of the jobs described above there were times where i was placed in charge of the job to be done (lead tech) for some of these jobs I was called on to request the proper permits required in order to perform our work. Along with any traffic assistance we needed such as police officers and crash trucks.
Before my time at Verizon I spent several years in construction working on commercial and residential sites for other companies and self employed.
