Objective

Certified Peer Recovery Support Specialist looking to work with clients who suffer from mental illness and/or alcohol, opioid and gambling addiction like myself. Seeking to obtain position in which I can use the skills that come naturally to me and that my own life experience has prepared/qualified me for. Qualifications

• Excellent listening and communication skills

• Able to tell my own story in order to let clients know they are not alone and also that I am a work in progress myself

• Empathetic and sensitive to clients who have suffered trauma and/or prejudice in their life experience

• Ability to relate to clients who have been incarcerated and understanding their defensiveness

• Understand the importance of client confidentiality and the importance of having release of information in place

• Understand the importance of ethical boundaries and consulting with my superiors Experience

• My own addiction to alcohol, opioids and gambling and my ongoing journey of recovery

• My own experience of participating in in-patient and out-patient treatment and therapy programs

• My participation in several treatment groups and intensive therapy groups

• My experience living in sober housing

• My experience being homeless

• My own experience of incarceration in jails

• My own experience of learning there is more than one path to recovery; what works for one may not work for another.

Education

• Obtained High school GED thru Robbinsdale School District

• Completed 46 hour Recovery Coach Training for PRSS at Minnesota Recovery Connection

• Passed the Minnesota Certification State Board Exam required for PRSS Volunteer

• Completed over 40 hours of required volunteer work at Minnesota Recovery Connection

• Did volunteer work at Vail Place answering phones, talking with peers, working snack bar, etc.
