Career Synopsis:

Born, raised and went to school in Cairo, Egypt. Graduated in Ain Shams University Medical School, one of two biggest and oldest medical schools in Egypt. All courses in medical school were in English. Distinction in Surgery, General Medicine, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Ophthalmology, ENT and Public Health.

2001-2002 House officer (Intern) in Ain Shams University hospitals. During this period I had Passed two months in each of these following sections:

1. General Medicine.

2. General Surgery.

3. Gynecology and Obstetrics.

4. Anesthesia and Emergency.

5. Pediatrics.

6. Respiratory diseases and Anesthesia.

2002-2005: Surgical resident in a professorial unit, Ain Shams University Hospitals. During this period, I took my MSc degree in General Surgery. This included preparation of a thesis titled "Management of adrenal tumors". I defended my thesis, which was admitted with distinction. MSc degree also included sitting for two parts exam. Part one included basic sciences and part two was an advanced surgical exam that included written part, vivas and clinical

2005-2009 Assistant lecturer, Department of Surgery, Ain Shams University. During this period, I spent four years in the Department of Surgery, Ain Shams University where I completed my MD thesis under joint supervision of Professor A. Abbas and Professor S. Maaty from Ain Shams University. The title of the MD thesis was " Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and the role of Leptin hormone". I defended my thesis in Ain Shams University and it was admitted with distinction.

Ain Shams University has two main surgical hospitals: El Demerdash and The Specialized Hospitals. The latter is one of the biggest and highly equipped hospitals in Egypt. The unit in which I work has special interest in GI surgery. I am personally interested in colorectal surgery, which I practice regularly. We frequently operate on colorectal cancer (Open and Laparoscopic), IBD, difficult and recurrent peri-anal fistulae, rectal prolapse, pilonidal sinus and other minor anal conditions. I regularly teach undergraduates and postgraduates. We have regular audit, case conferences and scientific meetings in the department. The unit in which I work has a regular firm of house surgeons attached whom I am involved in training. I am an examiner of the clinical parts of the final year medical school exam. I supervised during my career some MSc. N. B.

Ain Shams University Hospitals are among the largest Middle East hospitals including El- Damardash Surgery Hospital (about 500 beds with about 200 beds for general surgery and trauma, 5000 annual surgery operations, 10,000 annual outpatient visits).

Ain Shams University Specialized Hospital (about 1000 beds for surgery and trauma, 5000 annual surgical operations).
