For 21 years, I was the school music director at Southminster Day School in Vestavia. I taught. Music Theory, recorders, compositions, Instrument studies, Listening skills, musical moods, how to read music, learning about composers in our world, motor skills and learning about our world of accepting different forms of music from around the world. Music also reinforces math skills using Musical math patterns, harmony and tones. We study rhythms, movement, beats, explore musicals and plays.
We had musicals for grades 4K thru 5th grade and a school wide Christmas program. At the school wide Christmas program, the 1st year we had 300 in attendance and it grew to over 1,300 In attendance.
We had weekly Chapels with grades leading us in worship through music and sharing about God’s love though speaking.
I also had the privilege in organizing a talent show each year with students performing any type of talent from art, to sport skills, comedy, instrument and voice, and public speaking. All of this focuses on the gifts that God has given us.
I developed a music/art camp for inner city children and over the mountain children. These camps help to expose the children to different musical experiences in dance, speaking, solos, singing, percussion and string studies.
I worked in New Jersey local communities with music instruction, and locally with Brookwood Baptist, Dawson Church, Covenant Presbyterian, First Methodist, and Southminster Presbyterian in varied areas of music and music education.
I teach piano and voice lessons and have singers that sing all over at local and statewide performances. These are students from Vestavia, Trussville, Oak Mountain and Mountain Brook
In 2021 I went to Spring Valley School to create a music program which was completed in November 2022. .
