May 99 to May 2002 Department Of Justice

Federal Bureau of Prisons, FMC Devens

Senior Correctional Officer

As a Senior Officer I enforced the rules and regulations governing the operation of a correctional institution and the confinement, safety, health, and protection of inmates. At times, this requires physical exertion to subdue and control unruly inmates who may be armed and assaultive; supervising the various work assignments of inmates; and on occasion, carrying firearms, participating in inmate escorts, and participating as advisory members of the Unit Team that consists of Case Managers, Psychologists, Teachers, Unit Managers, Correctional Counselors, and other advisory personnel working to help in the development and growth of inmates to become law-abiding citizens. This also includes conducting pat and visual searches regularly. As a correctional officer here I supervise inmates in groups up to 150. As a Senior Officer at F.M.C. Devens I have been trained in Basic Prisoner Transportation and I conduct numerous armed escorts to various local hospitals. Accomplishments that I have achieved are using my IPC skills in Spanish with inmates in the mental health unit to stop potential volatile situations. I used my Spanish on a daily basis, due to a large population of Hispanic inmates. I have translated often while conducting investigations with inmates. I have received laudatory comments for superiors on my duties and professionalism as a correctional officer. My last rating period I had and Outstanding for my yearly evaluation. I also had a collateral duty as a member of the Special Operations Response Team. I trained approximately 8-12 hours per month in areas such as Hostage rescues, Advance firearms’ techniques, and all other aspects of a special operations team in a correctional environment.

1996 to Jan 1999 163rd Military Police Detachment

Scheduling soldiers for temporary duty to attend training at various locations. Accomplishments that I have achieved are completing three Command inspections on all of my duties and receiving laudatory comments, which included being the best in the Battalion of Military Police. Other accomplishments would be being asked for information from senior leadership on training issues because of the knowledge that I possessed, which was achieved by striving to be proficient at my duties. Comments from senior leadership as to how I perform duties that someone at a higher rank would normally perform.

Special Reaction Team Leader:

Duties and accomplishments: My duties included training my seven man team on all aspects of special operations to successfully complete our mission whatever it may be from Counter Terrorist training to live fire Close Quarter Battle shooting (Terrorist Threats/Hostage situation/Barricaded subject, Serving Warrants, etc.) Other responsibilities included keeping accurate records of training and weapons’ qualifications. I was also responsible for instructing SWAT firearms’ techniques to my team. Leadership, delegation of authority and working as a team are some important aspects why I was selected as a team leader, which helped me successfully train and keep my team at a high level of proficiency. I have successfully conducted over 300 hours of live fire shoot house training with no injuries. Accomplishments that I have made as a team leader were competing in two SWAT competitions and finishing first among other military teams and 4th overall. Being selected as a team leader though members of the team held a higher rank than I did. Being constantly selected to schedule, plan and execute training for all fifteen members of the team because of the knowledge and training that I have in special operations and my abilities to pass this on by instructing new team members. I have attended numerous civilian special operations/counter terrorist schools on all aspects of special operations. I have been asked to instruct various courses from other organizations at Ft Campbell, such as 5th Special Forces Group, and senior leadership from a company of Infantry soldiers, and civilian S.W.A.T. teams in the local area. A review of my training will show that I was fortunate to attend some of the best civilian counter terrorist courses in the country.
