Fruitvale Ave. Bridge Lifeline Seismic Retrofit; Alameda, California. Project Manager on this bridge seismic retrofit project, responsible for the preliminary engineering, cost estimating, coordination of environmental review and preparation of a Project Study Report, in addition to project management responsibilities. Project consisted of the upgrading of an existing bascule bridge beyond the normal “no-collapse” seismic retrofit to lifeline level which would ensure the continued operation of this bridge after a major earthquake. Major work elements for this 135-ft single leaf bascule span over the Oakland Estuary included reconstruction of trunnion column supports and pinion gears, counterweight restraint, steel casing of marine column supports and footing retrofit, relocation of bridge operator house, necessary no-collapse seismic retrofit of adjacent vertical-lift railroad bridge, and requirements to maintain vehicle and marine traffic during construction. West Lane Grade Separation; Stockton, California.
