ATLAS is responsible for providing technology services to students and instructors in at UIUC.

Undergraduate Student Researcher July 2022 – Present

I am working on a synthetic biology research project with Dr. Huimin Zhao at UIUC to create computational models to discover and simulate different mutations of proteins. The goal of the project is to isolate protein varieties that can synthesize a valuable chemical of interest. Our group is currently drafting a publication. Computation tools being used include CHARMM-GUI, Yasara, Numpy, Pandas, and Scikit-learn. Basic biochemical tools such as PCR, DNA sequencing are also used. Data cleaning and engineering is vital to my work as this allows many models to be trained.

UIUC CS 124 Course Assistant, January 2022 – Present

I am a student course assistant for CS 124, UIUC’s introductory computer science programming class for computer science majors. Responsibilities include helping students with understanding computer science concepts during office hours and recording video explanations for homework problems.

University of North Texas (UNT)

Undergraduate Student Researcher, June 2020 – August 2020

I was selected as one of the ten students to participate in the REU project on Information Retrieval and Data Analytics funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) at UNT. Successfully worked with a team led by Professor Junhua Ding to design a machine learning algorithm using various Python libraries. I participated in annotating sentences found in legal texts into distinct categories and studied Python Programming and Natural Language Processing. Wrote weekly research reports and participated in weekly group meetings. The research I contributed was eventually presented at a UNT student research conference and published at a top computer science journal.

Undergraduate Student Researcher, May 2019-August 2019

Worked in a biochemistry research lab at UNT with Dr. Vladimir Shulaev in Chemistry. Wrote weekly reports, analyzed research samples with liquid chromatography mass spectrometry data, and prepared plans for experiments. Gained experience with analytical chemistry techniques like liquid chromatography mass spectrometry. The research project was about analyzing the metabolites produced within the Hyalella azteca species during exposure to toxins such as hydrogen peroxide and cadmium.
