Kellie Cameron

I have a variety of leadership experiences in my career much has been outside of my work in healthcare. I have extensive experience in healthcare. I have worked alongside doctors and corporate leaders and senior management in various companies.

My career in healthcare extended for twenty-two years. I was a Medical Receptionist/Medical Secretary for eight years. During this time, I updated my skills by attending Morse School of Business where I was on the Honor Roll, Student of the Month and was the Valedictorian of my class. My GPA was a 3.98. I earned a technical certificate as a Medical Administrative Assistant.

I worked as a Medical Assistant for two years and was a liaison for my company and the cooperate office. As I worked as a Medical Assistant for two years in Internal Medicine and saw everything from the common cold to end stage AIDS. I assisted with my doctor on several procedures. I have a strong background in medical terminology and working in the health field also added to my terminology knowledge. Then an opportunity opened, and I began a career in medical billing, medical coding, and medical collections.

I worked in Medical Billing, Coding and Collections for 12 years. I have a strong background and knowledge on how to reconcile patient accounts with accounts receivables. Outside of healthcare I was very involved in local politics of my town in northern Connecticut. I was a Republican Town Committee member for the town of Windsor Locks for several years. I was appointed to the Windsor Locks Economic and Industry Development committee as a commissioner. I was a Delegate State Republican Convention where I was the Secretary of Credentials Committee at a Republican State Convention. I served my town in various capacities for several years before moving home.

Also, I have supervisory and leadership experience working for my church which is a faith-based, non-profit organization. I have four years of managing a non-profit organization’s social committee. I provided leadership in running their social events and the coffee hour where I had to organize groups of people to work, guide and train volunteers with set-up, serving food and clean-up activities.

I applied this training to lead a small group of my own. I have organized and taught Bible studies to single Christian women at and through my church. I have organized this small group of people while trying to gain more participants. I also attend leadership workshops at my church to gain more knowledge and skill to lead more effectively. I am the liaison with church leadership and provide accountability to the larger organization. I am continually connecting with the women in this group.

With this small group Bible study, I developed my own non-profit, faith-based ministry for single Christian women. I am the founder and president of a non-profit ministry leading small group of single women I have provided leadership and support while coaching and mentoring in this single women’s ministry. I oversee the non-profit ministry by directing and supervising meetings, facilitating discussion and communication, and providing care for single women’s personal needs. I have provided a supportive environment, group supervision, communication of mission and vision to the group, instill value of members, communicate current issues.

I am continually enrolling members for the group through various ministry opportunities. I lead monthly discussions on Bible topics related to application for our lives. I believe it is my purpose in life to help other single women to grow, find peace being single and find their purpose.

During this time, I have honed my skills as a writer. As of now I am in the process of turning my hobbies of both creative writing and screenwriting into careers. I have written several books about single women which are not published yet. I also wrote another two books, also not published yet, about my negative experiences as a patient and a devotional for doctoral students.

Included with my books I am a screenwriter. I love writing creative narratives about characters and learning to perfect the screenwriting craft. I have written six screenplays. With my screenwriting, my dream is to produce a script that I wrote and make it into a movie.

As my writing skills have developed, I have become proficient in written communication skills. My work has commented in my reviews that I am an excellent written communicator. In my writing skills I have developed proficient skills in written communications along with my doctoral education I have become proficient at APA writing and formatting along with scholarly reading and writing through the APA 7th manual and the educational process for my doctoral degree. I am proficient at WORD for Windows as I am becoming proficient in my writing with my education and continually updated my writing skills.

After a career break with a lengthy illness, I used my time off wisely. I completed my master’s degree. I pursued my Master of Business Administration online through Colorado Technical University. My GPA was 3.89 when I graduated in November 2016 on election day. In school, I took concentrations in finance, marketing, and healthcare administration. I learned about corporate budgeting, writing corporate financial forms, GAAP, investments, healthcare finance, and corporate finance. I also learned about healthcare management and running a healthcare facility as well as marketing and promoting a business.

Also in my MBA degree program, I learned about Balanced Scorecard, executive summaries, and Lean Six Sigma. I achieved leadership goals by leading teams in group school projects where I practiced, refined, sharpened my leadership skills and professional appearance. I also performed several Power Point presentations on various topics. Also, in my MBA program, I also took several classes in international finance, international marketing, and international business.

Currently I am working on a doctoral degree in Organizational Leadership in Healthcare Administration. I am currently researching the field of senior management that women play a part in. Women in senior leadership bring innovation and creativity to a firm while bringing sustainability and performance. Women have much to offer in the field of senior management especially boards of directors. In my education degrees I have learned to work well with others as a team player, especially diverse groups of people.

While in my doctoral degree training, I re-learned about Six Sigma and earned my certificate as a Yellow Belt in Six Sigma. I learned about quality of innovation and customer service working in the production industry. Also, while in my doctoral degree, I became a certified researcher. I have extensive experience with searching for appropriate journal articles and am familiar with Boolean research methods. My research skills have been searching journal articles on Google Scholar, Pub Med, Grand Canyon University, and various other search engines for articles.

While a doctoral student, I served as a member of a Board of Directors for a private not-for-profit mental health company for two years. On the board, I served the president of the organization by assisting in making decisions for the company, human resource issues and with strategic planning and fundraising. I personally gave ideas for fundraising. I sought out this position to understand what women go through who obtained board positions. This is my current research topic for my dissertation.

Through these various leadership experiences, I believe I have developed leadership capabilities in the following areas. Leadership skills (1) intercultural (cultural sensitivity; cultural intelligence); (2) social (emotional intelligence (EQ); empathy; self-control); (3) creativity/resourcefulness (breakthrough thinking; innovativeness; synergistic thinking); (4) self-knowledge (self-efficacy; resourcefulness; self-reflective); (5) positive outlook (vision; passion; optimism); (6) responsiveness (flexibility); and (7) decision-making (decisive; strategic; sound judgment; intuitive). (8) global mindset (researching countries of interest).

My previous employer was working part-time at Chick-fil-A in Hospitality. I have provided excellent customer service and excellent relationship skills. Customers compliment me all the time on the customer service they get. I would like to put this experience to good use after school with non-profit organizations. Also at work, I have put my education to good use where I work as I have already helped my boss with elements of organizational leadership, Six Sigma and Lean production.

Concurrent I a door of opportunity had opened to become a substitute teacher at a local school. I am looking forward to engaging the minds of young people to learn and grow. I am excited for the opportunity to teach and become a proficient teacher and hopefully a future education professional and professor. But I know starting off as a new professor I will work part-time. So, while working toward being a professor I will keep myself busy with my next opportunity.

I am excited to apply what I learned in school and my experiences toward my next position. I have much experience and education and will be a great person for my next leadership position. After intense Bible Study and working with my own mentor, God has called me to mentor and coach single Christian women. I am excited! I hope after graduation to concentrate on getting my life coaching certificate and possibly a health coaching certificate. I want to Lord, willing, open a life/health coaching practice.

With that being said, I also want to take the single Christian women’s ministry to the next level of expanding it nationwide. It is my hope, Lord willing, to center on single women’s issues vocationally, and personally. My next goals for my life and future career are to become a health coach and life coach to center on the needs of single Christian women mentoring and coaching them to a better life, purpose and well-being.
