Professional Experience

Period March 2020 — Current

Employer Savannah Informatics Limited Nairobi, Kenya Job Title Senior Software Engineer

Member of the product development team, whose mandate includes implementa- tion of internal digital tools to ensure more efficient service delivery to the com- pany’s clients. The team is also responsible for implementing new features and products to realize the company’s strategic objectives. In this capacity, I provide oversight and technical expertise in delivery of the team’s activities. Key activities and deliverables include:-

• Technical lead in development of the company’s payer portal. This is an innovative software product for insurance companies and brokers which al- lows them to manage their insurance policies. The product allows them to capture, monitor, suspend and manage all aspects of the insurance policies on the Slade360 network of over 2000 medical providers across 47 counties in Kenya. My role is to lead the team in market research, design, implemen- tation, sale and maintenance of the payer portal.

• Coordinate technical onboarding for team members. I conduct induction training for new team members, with special emphasis on members joining the payer portal team. This includes writing documentation, mentoring new team members on the technical stack as well as assigning and reviewing technical tasks.

• Manage client meetings. I handle client engagements pertaining to Slade360 products. These include weekly engagements to ensure that any client re- quests are taken into consideration and the system customized to better meet the client expectations. This also includes training on new features be- ing rolled out as well as any issues that have been resolved by the Slade360 team.

• Planning and prioritization of team tasks. This is done with respect to the ticket items received from client feedback. I manage the ticket items and assign the tickets to the technical teams for resolution. This ensures that client feedback is used to ensure better quality and value of the products developed by the team. This has resulted in better NPS scores during client surveys.

Employer Savannah Informatics Limited Nairobi, Kenya Job Title Software Engineer

Worked as part of the membership integration team at Savannah Informatics Lim- ited. The team’s mandate was to handle Slade360 integration to multiple Insurance Company systems to provide medical providers with membership information for insurance beneficiaries. The team had the responsibility of ensuring standardiza- tion of data for our Electronic Data Integration (EDI). This provided a platform for other company products including medical provider integration, beneficiary app for members to handle their medical insurance information, integration with other partners such as Safaricom through the Medical Credit Fund product. Key activities and deliverables include:-

• Handled membership integration at Jubilee Insurance Ltd, APA Insurance Ltd and Britam Insurance Ltd, among others. I was part of the team that handled the membership integration for major insurance companies to the Slade360 EDI platform.

• As a full stack developer implemented both the front-end screens and back- end application programming interface (API), which currently allows the cus- tomer center, claims and underwriting team members to discharge their du- ties on Slade360. This improved service delivery and reduced the turnaround time for the customer center from 45 minutes to 15 minutes.

• DImplemented restriction management for insurance policies, including tech- nical workflows that allows the insurance companies to control access of in- surance schemes to the various product providers. This feature ensures that members who do not have access to certain medical providers are restricted from getting medical services from those providers. This also ensures that their client agreements such as co-pays are fully captured on the system thus reducing over-utilization by insurance schemes’ members.

• Handled technical support tickets raised by insurance companies and benefi- ciaries. This involved implementation of solutions for technical bugs discov- ered by the Slade360’s customer center, Insurance companies and medical providers. This involved collaboration between various internal teams to en- sure efficient service delivery.

• Participated in the implementation of the Charge Master product. I was part of the team that implemented the Charge Master product for Savannah Informatics Limited. This was an effort to implement a standard for hospital drugs and services as well as the business partners of Savannah Informat- ics Ltd. This product ensures that all relevant data on Slade360’s EDI is coded. This product allows the company to do data analysis across over 2000 medical providers in terms of drug prices and cost of care. The insurers and medical providers can therefore gain insights and better price visibility hence negotiate for better terms with medical providers. This ultimately leads to competitive pricing and eventually benefits the beneficiaries who buy insur- ance policies.

Worked as a part of the team in charge of development of the Slade360 EMR system. Primary responsibility was working on tickets on the project under the guidance of the Chief Technology Officer, CTO. These tickets involved development of various modules of the electronic medical records (EMR) in collaboration with other team members. Key activities and achievements include:-

• Handled diagnosis capture through integration of international standards such as the 10th revision of the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems 10th revision, ICD-10. This effort involved adoption of international standards when capturing patient diagno- sis data to enhance interoperability between Savannah Informatics’ propri- etary software with that of the insurance companies and medical providers. Therefore ICD-10 standards were adopted and integrated into the diagnoses captured by the system.

• Did market research for the Savannah Informatics products. I participated in product demonstrations to prospective clients in the healthcare industry. These meetings allowed our team to gather valuable insights which were then used to update our product designs to better suit the prospective clients.
