Coordinate flight activities with the Commanders of Air Sea Rescue;

Assures that manpower requirements of the unit and that helicopter pilots meet required performance standards including flight training requirements;

Supervise the operational duties of the Company Officers responsible for instructing staff and preparing work reports;

Ensures schedules for helicopter pilot training and equipment maintenance do not conflict with emergency responses;

Makes certain that the helicopter unit complies with the aviation regulations of the FAA and with departmental rules and regulations;

Trains staff on proper emergency procedures for air and sea rescue incidents;

Chief Helicopter Rescue Pilot, 1998 to 2020

Licensed, experienced senior commander and flight instructor responsible for all helicopter operations.

Responsible for air and/or sea emergencies requiring rapid assessments and provides a course of action including diver deployments, surface rescues, subsurface rescues, hoist abstractions and urgent transport.

Performs take offs/landings. Assists mechanics with mechanical repairs/ troubleshooting.

Determines flight routes, speed, and take-off and landing times.

Provides aid to people in distress or imminent danger.

Ensures that the helicopter safety and maintenance are ran safely.

Execute special duties, police assistance, photo flights and demonstrations.

Trains crew members on helicopter operations as well as search strategies.

Current with federal and local flight regulations. Certified Flight Instructor (CFI).

Performs daily routine maintenance to ensure that helicopter remains mission operative, including pre- flight maintenance; tracks helicopter flight hours along with use to schedule for preventive maintenance;

Ensures instruments certification according to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations;

Timely completes large-scale phase maintenance and large component exchanges by contractors;

Monitors the work of the maintenance contractors; recognize the needs and makes the arrangements for unexpected or unscheduled maintenance or repairs;

Performs maintenance test flights.

Ensures that pilots meet required performance standards and required flight training.

Maintains schedules for helicopter pilot training and equipment maintenance, to not conflict with emergency responses.

Sustains written and computerized flight logs and aircraft and pilot records incompliance with FAA regulations and other federal guidelines.
