Project Manager / Scrum Master

Worked as a contractor supplied by Amdocs to the Mitsubishi Union Financial Group (MUFG). Held the role of Scrum Master for three projects and a Project Manager for one.

Successfully remediated 3 applications that had reached ‘End-of-Life’.

Successfully navigated a complex Waterfall process through a 5 month ‘Pre-Planning’ phase. This project had 38 separate applications and a budget of over 13 million dollars.

Managed 3 Scrum teams (7 or 8 team members in each) with 2 of them running concurrently.

Utilized JIRA for 3 Agile projects.

Maintained Microsoft Project for ~180 resources.

American Express, Phoenix, Arizona 01/2015- 03/2020

Technical Project Manager / Scrum Master

Managed the project for the system that was responsible for making the decisions on which offers would be presented to a potential card member who is accessing an American Express webpage for the first time.

Successfully migrated the prospect portion of an aging legacy system onto an internal cloud environment. This new system allowed American Express to make changes in just a few weeks, compared to a few months, as it took before.

Scrum Master for multiple successful Scrum teams.

With input from the Analytics team, changes were made to the initial architecture that allowed modifications to the AI models which resulted in a projected revenue increase of 1.2 billion dollars.

Expedited an application that addressed a complex compliance issue for Customer Support.

Expedited API changes that allowed Delta Airlines to access our system.

Implemented a SPA based UI application that gave marketing personnel the ability to directly modify features for offer mitigation.

Handled the administration tasks for multiple American Express teams with regards to on-boarding, off-boarding, and timekeeping for approximately 100 contractors.

Operation/Project Manager and Lead Developer

Managed a team of Data Scientists in creating a set of models used for predicting a horse’s chance to win a given race and what the final para-mutual pools would look like. Using this information, along with real-time data from the totalizators, we were able to automatically place our wagers just prior to the close of the event.

The system generated a steady 3% daily ROI throughout the life cycle of the project.

Implemented a wagering engine (of my own design) that calculated the most advantageous wagers for a given race.

Implemented a system that collected all wagering real-time data in North America.

Computer Guidance Corp, Scottsdale, Arizona 01/2008- 03/2009

Agile Mentor and Lead Java Developer

Led the company’s Java development group. This group was responsible for the support and new development of the company’s core software products. Computer Guidance is a major software supplier for the systems used by the largest construction companies in North America. These applications were originally created using a combination of Java and RPG code running on an IBM iSeries platform.

Successfully migrated portions of a legacy RPG system into a SPA UI supported by Java web services.

Created numerous customer-requested custom modifications. This was one of the primary revenue streams for the company.

Implemented changes to streamline both the deployment and unit testing processes.

Implemented an Agile development process which reduced the number of professional resources and the amount of time for changes.

Additional Accomplishments

Mutual Manager for a thoroughbred racetrack (Turf Paradise, Phoenix AZ). Track official in charge of operations and personnel (over 300 employees) for both its on-site and off-track operations.
