Administers field-wide control for the standard procedures as related to storing, handling, recording, dispensing and distribution of all regularly stocked and specially prescribed pharmaceuticals.

Secures all health authority import permits for the introduction of all narcotic, controlled and psychotropic drugs into the Hospital’s use. Submits annual narcotic requirement forecast based on estimated usage. Reports on a quarterly basis, inventory and usage of all narcotic, controlled and psychotropic drugs to the Health Authority and all other related correspondence is dealt with, through the appropriate channels, as required.

Directs the design and preparation of the publication of Drug Formulary of all available and approved drugs every two years as a reference for all medical personnel. Reviews pharmaceutical journals, publications and pharmacy newsletters for the identification of newly marketed drugs. Reviews all pharmaceutical manufacturers’ catalogs and brochures and various professional reference books and articles for use by all medical personnel.

Meets, on a regular basis, with all local pharmaceutical agents/vendors to maintain up-to-date information regarding newly registered drugs with the DHA. Ensures that such agents/vendors comply with storage and sanitation standards as approved by the Environmental Health Unit and recommends that the company takes necessary action to prevent violation of any standards.

Participates in the T.Q.M. programs in collaboration with T.Q.M. Department. Serves as member of the Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee, Drug Utilization Review Committee, and other hospital-wide committees attending to its regular meeting and appropriately taking actions to Pharmacy-related issues on a timely manner. Advises on matters pertaining to criteria of treatment, cost, and correct usage of drugs in the administration of patient care, etc.

Assesses, evaluates, and follow ups pharmacy staffs who are candidates for licensing to submit licensing requirements and be qualified for the licensure examination.

Acts and makes immediate decisions upon receipt of any circular/letter issued by the Dubai Health Authority (D.H.A) recommending withdrawal and/or discontinuation of any medication, or to report any unexpected adverse effects.
