Senior Production Technician

• Build liquid fueled rockets out of composite materials that gets air launched from 35,000 feet in altitude via a Boeing 747 aircraft and put small satellites into orbit for commercial and National Security customers. Since 2016 I’ve been part of different development projects to help bring the company from a start-up position to a production company in the Lamination and TPS (Thermal Protection System) departments.

• Lamination duties included hand lay-up builds of large skirts, Fins, Fairings, small piece parts for the Rocket and complex geometrical panel builds for the 747’s Pylon mechanism using a variety of carbon fibers and honeycomb core. Assisting with Filament Winding of Fuel and Liquid Oxygen Tanks. Other duties included final bagging using the best bagging techniques, final bag leak checks, laser track set up and autoclave set up.

• TPS duties include bond prep of composite and metallics, Cork bonds using silicone adhesives to composite structures such as Fins, Engine Skirt, Fairings, Raceways, Aerocover. Use of hand held tools such as orbital sanders, dotcos and drill guns. Other duties include, cork repair, counterboring, leak checks, cryogel and Zotek installation on PST boosters and propulsion lines. TPS support in Mojave for pre-launch operations/ final TPS Rocket closeouts.

• Backing Lead/ Point of contact for TPS includes interfacing with Engineers to find solutions for non-conforming items, delegating work to other technicians, training new and or other technicians, writing End of day summary reports and work priority list via Outlook email and 5S/6S ownership to keep a lean manufacturing environment.

• Works closely with Manufacturing Engineers for continuous improvements on processes and Work instructions.

• Quality duties as a member of SQuID (Special Quality Inspection Designation) include the ability to inspect and verify other technicians work in the Structures, Lamination and TPS department. Write up non-conforming or suspect WTF (What to fix) tickets. Use of precision instruments like scales and calipers to check gap tolerances and take measurements for Engineering requirements.

• Explosives handling (PST rocket boosters, Frangible joints). Cleared by ATF and DOJ.

• (SQuID) Special Quality Inspection Designation- Ability to buy off other technician’s work in the Lamination, TPS and Structures department. Inspection buy offs include Poly count, Vacuum pressure verification, Leak check, Film adhesive inspection, Durometer check for Shore A and D, Water break, Bond prep, running torque/Final torque, wet adhesive thickness check and dimensional/ tolerance checks.

• Supported various departments for Boeing's 787 Dreamliner program.
