Project Details: The Municipal Information System aided by the World Bank aimed at development of GIS databases for various municipalities in the state of West Bengal. Draft Development Plans were required by the Municipalities to plan for long-term development activities.
The project required the preparation of spatial data from scratch, as the base maps available at the Urban Local Bodies were not standardized and not accurate.
The base map was developed through GPS Traverse Surveys for mapping of administrative boundaries. Cadastral maps were used for incorporation of plot details.
All infrastructural details like road network, drinking water pipelines, sanitation, and electricity were mapped in detail to facilitate the planning process. Detailed Land use maps were also developed to facilitate the town planning process.
