Hello!
My name is Emily Contreras. I am a new graduate Family Nurse Practitioner seeking my first employment opportunity. I graduated from University of Texas Arlington in December 2022 with my Master of Science in Nursing. I have worked at Children’s Medical Center for the past 13 years. I started as a patient care technician in the Emergency Department. I worked in the ED for one year until I earned my nursing degree. I was hired on the Neurosurgery/Plastic surgery department as an RN. I worked in this department for 7 years and fulfilled roles including staff nurse, charge nurse and preceptor. I transferred to float pool when I decided I wanted to go back to school for my FNP. I wanted to gain experience in different specialties that would broaden my knowledge of pediatric medicine and gain experiences that would help develop a strong foundation for when I became a provider. I have worked in float pool at Children’s Medical Center for the last 5 years. I have worked in areas such as pulmonary, GI, renal, neurosurgery/neurology, hematology, oncology, cardiology, and the emergency department. The float pool department was also responsible for running the COVID unit at the start of the pandemic.
Prior to becoming a nurse, I worked as a paramedic in Dallas and Ft. Worth. This experience influenced my decision to pursue my FNP instead of PNP. I have worked with both adults and pediatrics and simply wanted to have the option to work with both as a provider in the future. That being said, my experience at Children’s Medical Center has fostered a deep love for pediatric medicine that I can not escape.
On a personal note, I live in Rowlett with my husband and 10 year old daughter. We have lived in Rowlett for the past 13 years and absolutely love it! Some of my hobbies include fishing, camping, reading, crochet, traveling, and spending time with my family.
I have attached my resume along with a list of references. Please feel free to reach out with questions you may have for me. I look forward to hearing from you.
Sincerely,
Emily Contreras, RN, MSN, FNP-C
