* ***** ** ******* ******** drawing designs for single family residential units in AutoCAD and BC Calc. Architectural plans are referenced in order to design a stick frame or truss layout for the unit in question, calculating loads and selecting appropriate grades and species of wood to use for the project based on engineering requirements and builders’ desired specifications. Hands-on learning of engineering concepts and applications. Communication, precision, and creative solution-finding are key elements to successful plan design in this position.
2.5 years drawing designs in AutoCAD for fabrication of structural and architectural steel members. Girders, railings, etc., were designed according to load-bearing needs, industry tolerances, and placement, taking into account other structural elements in the relevant project. Email communication with contractors, architects, engineers, and erectors had to be constantly maintained for any and all changes, which were also recorded in logs for reference. 3+ years cleaning and assembling components for use in cable connections and computer construction. This involved close inspection of all fabricated parts for defects. Out-of-spec parts would either be replaced with new parts, or cleaned into tolerances. They would then be assembled together, packaged, and shipped to various clients. I also conceptualized procedures and methods that streamlined the inspection and assembly process for some of the parts produced, which later became implemented as a regular part of said processes.
1+ year working in a soil and concrete testing laboratory. This involved testing samples of construction material for strength, moisture absorbency, material composition, and other physical attributes. Tools used included concrete compression machines and beam testers, pycnometers, soil compactors, laboratory sieves, unit weight measures, liquid and plastic limit devices, and expansion testing apparatus. Multiple tests would often be administered on samples in order to either account for margin of error, or to provide a larger pattern for graphing. In addition to using the aforementioned tools to test samples, I would also regularly inspect them to preclude false results, calibrate them to assure continued performance, and maintain them as needed.
Writing/editing: 1 year experience in drafting templates for communication with clients and employees
