To Whom It May Concern:
As a teacher and coach at Northwestern High School for the last 17 years, I have been privileged to teach and coach many outstanding students. I would like to use this opportunity to share about one near to my heart, Rodney Brown. I have known Rodney since he was a 10th grader and am confident that he would be a fine addition to your school. His career at Northwestern has been full of accomplishments that reflect his intelligence, work ethic, and determination. Knowing Rodney for 3 years has afforded me the opportunity to see him grow as a person, as a student, and as an athlete. I have coached him for three years in football, two at the varsity level. Rodney has always been a great teammate, doing any number of things to lift his teammates’ spirits or their level of play. He has always been very coachable, asking for and heeding advice and instruction from those in a position of authority and experience. He has been a starter and a reserve player in his career, and he has done whatever the coaches have asked without complaint or hesitation. He was a key part of last year’s run to the 2015 AAAA State Championship. Rodney is also a wonderful citizen at Northwestern. He balances excellent grades with several other interests in and out of school. He is active with his family, serving as a babysitter for his nieces when they are in need. He also volunteered for Northwestern Football’s “Gameday Giveback” where he spoke about the importance of academic excellence to elementary students. Another way he gives back to his community is by volunteering at football camps in the summer to coach little leaguers. His reputation at the school is excellent, he is a model student-athlete who manages to divide his time between service, school, and athletics without any of them suffering. I also had the pleasure of teaching Rodney as a sophomore and as a senior, in Geometry and Statistics, respectively. Not only were his grades very good, he was a great help in class with other students who needed tutoring. Rodney Brown will be a great representative of any institution. He offers so much in so many facets of life that he is bound to succeed in whatever he pursues. His determination to better himself will serve him well throughout his life. I highly recommend Rodney for this institution. Sincerely,
Bryan D. Smith
